Get rid of that fucking 17 alkyl group

Question:

Why can't dianabol, winstrol, Oxymetholone, etc have their 17 alkyl group removed, and be estrified similar to testosterone. I understand its nice to make them oral ... but most of us don't care.

Most guys don't mind shooting
Some guys LOVE shooting
Others guys get hard off of the idea of shooting Reforvit B into every part of their body.

You could make them a propionate ester, quick release or even acetate. Avoid the toxic effects and still have effective gear. Absorption would be better since it is IM and not oral ... I think this is why 50 mg winny IM is better than 50 mg oral.

So WHY DONT THEY DO IT!?

Not quite sure if this is the correct answer but a lot of these drugs are used for legit medical purposes on patients. Compliance is much better if there in a pill form vice an injectable....

They could be nice and make it both ways.....;)

you pretty much answered it yourself
the 17 alkly group is there to protect the 17-OH from oxidation to the ketone, and therefore becoming inactive (or rather less active/potent.....similar to androsteindione). Without this group, these medications would pretty much not work taken orally. Yes, they could be removed, and an ester could be made out of the 17-OH to make a sustained release IM form that would undergoe hydrolysis to the active compound. Of course, the alkly group must not be there, or hydrolysis will not take place.

Like you said. you could make these changes, and they would work, but only IM. In the world of drug manufacturing, many more people are willing to take oral drugs rather than IM drugs. there's your answer

actually learned something in med. chem.!

Another thing to bear in mind is the 17aa group modifies how the steroid affects the body; some examples of this include boldeonone and dbol (same steroid, except one is 17aa) and methyl testosterone and testosterone, all of which have very different effects from their counterparts. Perhaps the pharmaceutical companies who developed common 17aa steroids in use today found their non 17aa counterparts to be inferior steroids.

17aa steroids posses some unique qualities that non-inj don't, such as a much longer active half-life when in the bloodstream and increase in igf1 through being processed in the liver. even a small dose of 17aa will make a big difference in a steroid stack...particullarily in terms of muscle preservation when dieting.

BTW eq is d-bol w/o the 17aa and with an ester. winstrol w/o 17aa and with an ester would be simular in structure and action to primo. so to answer your question, yes, it has been done, and no, the effects are not the same.

These are some excellent posts guys. Thanks.

Its really interesting how per mg, dbol is much more effective at increasing size and strength than EQ - I take into consideration the weight of the undecyl chain too ... nonetheless, the same structure with only a modification at one position with noticible results. Maybe this is simply a function of the halflife of the coumpound once boldenone is blood-borne it is deactived much fatser than dbol ... perhaps ::shrugs:: maybe its a structural effect?

In popular thinking the dangers of 17aa steroids have been completely played-up. Manufacturers (who know the truth) don't see the need to produce non 17aa drugs. Only anadrol at high doses and with long term use has displayed health problems in a small number of its users.

Your liver is a tough organ that largely regenerates when it is damaged. Perhaps the benefits of alkylating steroids are far greater then the (largely theoretical) dangers.

Alkylating drugs is common for a great many prescription meds - meds that are taken by sick old people daily for years. It is only in steroids that the dangers of 17 alpha- alkylation are exaggerated. This is a way of controlling people through fear, discouraging them from taking steroids.

It's MOST likely that these non-17aa drugs have been made, and tested, and they did not survive the evolution of synthetic androgens for one reason or another..

Winstrol is in a class by itself.. There is no non-17aa version of it. Masteron and primobolan have A-ring methylations.. Which likely prevents aromatization. Not sure about the activity of the 17aa derivatives of these drugs.
