George Stark....."boiling techniques"

yes george, you were correct on many of your deductions about using a syringe filter to clean your gear, but just the same, that removes some but not all bacteria.....also, boiling removes some but not all bacteria....and no, you do not need to reach 280 f to kill bacteria.....many forms of bacteria will die at temps around 170-180 for the correct amount of time.....i boil, because the gear will get NO hotter than 212 f.....if you put in oven, it is not as well regulated and i would be afraid if it got too hot, it may alter the gear itself....also, the pin in the vial to equalize pressure is the best way to do this......when the gear cools, it will draw outside air back into the vial to re-equalize pressure, but this is not adding more bacteria into the gear.....don't forget, before you draw gear from a vial, you first draw outside air into the empty syringe, then inject this air into the vial in order to make it easier to draw the gear into the syringe.......this whole process of boiling is not making the gear sterile, but i do believe it removes a good amount of bacteria if there is any present........405

250 degrees for 15 minutes... then let cool to room temperature. Leave the stopper on. The pressure is what will help to sterilize the contents of the vial. Repeat 2 more times and its sterile.

hey Stew....how do you get the gear to 250 without putting in oven?....water will not get hotter than 212 degrees f......also, YGM at hotmail......thanks 405

hey stewmeat, do you just throw the vials on a baking pan for 15 minutes??? will this work for smaller ampules like testoprim and sten????
