ok...i am 6'1 170lbs and bench around 250 or so....i know im not that strong but just started lifting hard not to long ago....but my friend is 6'1 175lbs and 18 yrs old...the other day he told me he benches over 300 i just shook my head as i wasnt going to argue with him....but then he was like hey can u spot me on incline and he had 225 on there, hes like im going to get 3 or maybe 4.....he got to 4 still easily pushin it up so i made him go to 8 reps and i didnt even have to spot him......

while i know this isnt like some incredible feat but for someone who is pretty skinny i was damn impressed by that....maybe im wrong what do u guys think?

Some lifters have a really good structure for benching and gain fast on the movement. How long has he been training? Great start though

How is he at squat and deadlift?

Like Walkingbeast says, some people are better built for particular lifts. It's one of the things which makes it interesting to watch powerlifting as someone puts up a huge poundage in squat or bench and then finally in walks some super-deadlifter and claims the lead.

I used to work out with this guy that was half my size, and he could outlift me on bench and military no sweat. Little bastard. Good thing was it pushed me harder. Some people are just lucky with good genetics.

That would make a difference. It'd make it plausible then that his muscles, per se, aren't necessarily stronger than yours but that his CNS is better able to utilise what he has thus making him stronger.

There are other factors involved too, though. You may have high bone density which would leave you weaker than someone else who weighs the same but has more muscle. There's fat storage in the equation too along with muscle quality.

Just keep lifting and strength will come.
