"No matter how you try to blame it on the president the actual responsibility for it really would be for the troops that were there. Did they search carefully enough? Didn't they search carefully enough?" (Rudy Giuliani on the Today Show, 10/28/04)
In response, General Merrill "Tony" McPeak issued the following statement:
"It's outrageous that the Bush campaign is now deliberately trying to shift blame and responsibility for their failure to the brave men and women in Iraq. Make no mistake: the failure to secure these explosives lies with the President and his national security team who have mismanaged this war from its very inception. This Commander in Chief thinks the buck stops anywhere but his own desk, and that's why it's time for a new one."
"George Bush was the engineer of this train wreck. Now he needs to take responsibility for it."
