geezer rant

what is it about old, retired people and traffic flow blockage? on the roads b/t my home and the gym, the speed limits are 35 to 40 mph, traffic flows around 45.

each day, i have to dodge around several old card carrying, anti-destination league retired senior citizens with no where to go and all day to get there, blocking traffic in the left hand lane!!! IT SEEMS LIKE 32 MPH IS THE NATIONAL GEEZER SPEED LIMIT!!!! can't they at least put-put along in the right lane, the so called slow lane?

even my lead-footed mother, who showed me how to power brake for good peel outs, and who was caught by police radar doing 54 in a 20, has slowed down to the geezer limit (she's 67).

thanks for reading this, i feel better now!:D

Are you trying to flame WODIN or something! That's not cool man!

:D
wodin is not THAT old...........is he?

60 miles per hour = 1. miles per minute
30 miles per hour = .5 miles per minute
so 45 miles per hour = .75 miles per minute

Lets say you live 5 - 10 miles from your gym.

Your desired = 5 miles/.75 = 6.67 minutes
or 10 miles/.75 = 13.3 minutes
Grandpaws speed = 5/.5 or 10/.5 = 10 - 20 minutes

Difference = 3.3 to 6.7 minutes slower

So, you're weaving in and out of traffic to save 3 to 6 minutes ?

You just demonstrated why insurance rates are drastically lower for older drivers.

when you are behind someone going very very slow and they are old - just remember that as you age, the reaction time that it takes for your brain to process the visual information coming in slows down a lot.
that is why they go slower and tend to sit up closer to the windshield - to increase the amount of time they have to react to things - it seems fast to them.

something to do with levels of neurotransmitters in the brain declining with age if I recall correctly.

in the end, we all get old - so as you are behind them and swearing, remember that.

also remember that the faster you are going when you hit something - the more damage is done to all involved.

the end.

to continue your line of "reasoning":
6 minutes x 6 days = 36 minutes per week loss

36 x 52 = 1872 minutes per year loss, 31 HOURS per year!!

i should waste 31 hours per year stuck behind some old paw-paw bacause he is too senile to get in the slow lane?? perhaps you have all the time in the world, but SOME of us out here in the real world have to priotitize out time in order to get everything done.

i don't question their right to drive. i just want them to stay the hell outta the left lane, the so called fast lane and not hold up traffic.

also, your insurance rate data in innacurate. state farm's insurance rates for older, "mature" drivers is up there with unmarried males under the age of 21.
