I am in love with that new compact machine gun being developed by Israel. I forget the name but it is light, very compact (for urban warfare) and is as accurate as a sniper rifle up to 300 yards. It can fire 15 rounds per second and also has red dot sight. Plus it looks neat. I WANT ONE!

Ive seen the show at times.

One was developed by the Irish I think (called Thor?). Shrot range anti aircraft weapon that could also be used for ground combat. Essentially it kills whatever it can see, and with infrared vision, it could even identify individual combatants in urnabm combat behind thick walls and take them out.

They're pretty easy to kill, but there are a damn lot of them.

What counter measures exist to make say an aircraft carrier anything but a sitting target.

During the recent conflict in Lebanon I learned that the terrorists had been provided with torpedos capable of reaching 400 miles per hour on the way to their target. Not to mention various types of missiles etc.

Haven't you seen "The Sum of All Fears"? starring Ben Afleck.

Aircraft has various defensive devices. Receptor missles, flak, flares.
The Sum of all Fears had a radar guided machine gun which shot down any incoming missles. Not sure if that was real or Hollywood though.

The Isreali ship which got hit by a missle off the coast had it's defenses turned off since there was no war or threat at that moment....or so they thought.

They just all jump overboard and kick really hard to push the ship out of the way.

I don't see how something could travel 400 mph under water either. Samote could figure it all out I'm sure, but that's a bit of drag.

It may have been a surface torpedo I think. Does seem fast.

The article above outlines however how they can get torpedos to travel hundreds of miles per hour even underwater. Apparently they create an airpocket around it to decrease drag. Pretty amazing actually

It would have to have a short range at that speed because of the amount of energy needed to go that fast and to create the pocket. The pocket would have drag issues. It must be a short burst when it gets near the target.

It would take a helluva lot more than one torpedo to cripple an aircraft carrier, though.

Those things are real. They are gattling guns that are guided by radar. They shoot so damn fast it sounds like they're farting. Those things are badass. I saw them on the Discovery Wings channel before they switched their name to the Military Channel.

I saw that the other night. Neat weapon.
The only thing I dislike about nearly all sniper rifles is the weight. My buddy working for a gun store got a 50 cal in and it weighed a freakin ton.
