Front raises - increasing ROM?

As I understand it, a regular front raise involves moving your arms from parallel next to your body to perpendicular, until your hands are about level with your shoulders. Is it a good idea to extend the movement to a 180 degree movement? i.e. so your arms end up fully outstretched above you? can/will it damage shoulder joints?
 
I think that if you lift it to eye level you get some added benefit (same with side raises) to certain upper chest muscles. Going straight up is probably not a good idea - I don't have the documentation handy but it was not recommended.
