frequent squash inhibiting gains?

I've recently taken up playing squash 1-2 hrs, 4 times a week. It's a very intense cardio workout and leaves me sweating, drained and a funny orange colour. However I have heard that too much cardio can slow muscle growth, or even worse, cause you to lose gains by reducing bulk in your limbs.

Is this true? Is regular competitive sport incompatible with gaining lean muscle mass? Or do I just need to make sure that I'm taking extra calories to account for the energy expenditure?

You need a caloric excess to grow, intense cardio burns calories so in order to keep growing you'll have to eat more to make sure you're still taking in more than you're burning. You can still grow but adjust the amount of food that you eat.
Then there's the question about making sure you're getting adequate rest to allow your body to adapt to all the stress that you're putting it under. Intense cardio will certainly slow gains!
