Free ISSA personal trainer certification.

It looks like you may be in texas due to your links. on the west coast i came up with different stuff, but still many of the same concerns exist in your links (the acceptance of the cert) for me it wouldnt matter I'm already working. But like I said before, I'm not knocking it, just looking for info and it looks like alot of other people are (or were in 2005 from your links), looking for info too. Even if it is a free exam, I don't want to waste time, or money on books. Thanks for your time the advice!

I agree. There's no doubt though that their exam is one of the hardest to pass and from those who know it, one of the most respected. To me that's everything. I wouldn't wast time dealing with any gym or any gym "manager" who wouldn't accept their cert just because they have "never heard of it". If our industry wants to start getting respect for our services (like athletic trainers or physical therapists) then we need to stop dwelling on ACE, AFAA, NASM and the other grandfather cert agencies that got us into this mess. They are the main reason we have thousands of crappy trainers out there today. They had their chance to make out industry great and in my opinion, they blew it. Trainers should either go to college or take a real home program with a real proctored exam. Otherwise, you and I will always be competing with high schoolers looking to make a quick buck before they move onto something else.

Most gym owners or managers have been in the business for so long, they have absolutely no idea what's really going on outside their own gym. Scirion is one of the best programs that is being offered today. Anyone that says they don't accept it must have another reason. Maybe political, maybe ignorance. It wouldn't be based on merit because if it were, they wouldn't accept ISSA or NASM or NESTA of IFPA. These exams are taken with no one present by the "student". Anyone could have taken these exams for the student it was intended for and no one would be the wiser. There is no accountability. No accountablity...shady results... need I mention Iraq???

I think you nailed it with ignorance. I asked around today at my gym (Golds) not one trainer knew what Scirion was, not even the Gym GM knew. Most there are ACE, NSCA and IFPA (and a couple NATA guys). I did talk to some guys that are here from Chicago for the Olympia and one of them had heard of it, but knew no details.

I've referred three friends to the Truetrainer site to get the free certification voucher and all three of them got the AFAA one! AFAA is the worst one they offer and I've read on another site that they are giving away mostly AFAA and ACE because they have a special deal with them. They must be using the Scirion and ACSM name to attract people to the promotion but then when you apply to get a cert voucher, you get one of the cheap ones instead.

This is not necessarily true. I received the Scirion certificate. I was hoping to get ACSM. I've got some studying to do.

I've seen their site. It's a legitimate deal their offering. The cert you don't want to get is the AFAA cert. That program is so tired and out of touch it's almost laughable. The ACE cert is probably the other one I'd rather not get because so many subpar trainers flaunt that cert around like they've actually achieved something.

what certs do you have?
