So say I really want to have my own business, is going with a franchise a good way to do that, or does it leave you feeling like you are working for the franchise?

from what I understand you'll work like a dog until you have 3-5 and can afford to hire a sort of "regional manager" out of your operating income.

Franchising basically means -- someone did a lot of grunt work and trivial issues for you. That way you can concentrate on what you do best -- run the business and make money.

Of course it costs money for a franchise, so it's also a downfall in a way.
