formal writing question

New member
when writing a formal letter, is the first 'paragraph' always a single sentence on a single line?

I do not know if there are any restrictions for a sentence to go more than on eline, however it looks a lot more proffesional if you limit the sentence to only one line.

you'll be fine with more than a one liner at the beginning of that letter. when writing formal letters keep it short and polite. usually two paragraphs. 3 or 4 sentences first pararagragh and 4 or 5 the last paragragh seems to be the avg for me and my formal writing endeavors

DATE
YOUR ADDRESS
THEIR ADDRESS
SALUTATION TO THE PERSON YOU ARE WRITING TO.
LETTER BODY
a)statement of content
b)importance of the main statement
c)justification, background and examples to support your
statement
d) closing statement - refer back to opening statement

CLOSING SALUATION (Cordially, Respectfully, etc...)

You could put below the salutation, RE: The person's name and the reason of you letter.

right on. thanks.

fucking microsoft letter wizard put my name first, but it puts my address on the bottom left of the page, like where you would have the page numbers. there is no way that is correct, unless thing have changed since i took a writing course in 10th grade in '98.
