For those who are married........

For those who are married (or single)............

.......how long were you two together prior to marriage? How old were you throughout dating? Did it have an effect on the rest of your social life? Were you willing to commit to just 1 person at such a young age............let's talk.

2 years dating on and off. Will be married 14 years this july. I think. Maybe 15...What year is this?

Dated for about four and a half years, and lived together for about four if memory serves. Been married just over six months now.

No problem staying faithful. The sex just gets better as you become more comfortable with one another, and begin to experiment a little.

how long were you two together prior to marriage?
13 Months

How old were you throughout dating?
22-23

Did it have an effect on the rest of your social life?
Slightly. The old 5th wheel syndrome with your friends.
You seem to stray away from your single, wild friends and gravitate towards other couples to hang with.

Were you willing to commit to just 1 person at such a young age
Yes, I has sown my Oats to my hearts content.
I was tired of bar hopping-shopping and getting to know someone new as to what they liked, disliked etc..

Well I know that you and I have spoke about this a little before, but here is what I can tell you:

I asked kronkette to marry me after 6 months of dating. I was about as old as you are right now, maybe a year or two older.

I knew her for about a year prior to dating.

Yes, it had a DRAMATIC effect on my social life. I had to pretty much loose all of my single friends, (not becuase she askd me too), justs becuase, I was married and hell, when you are with the boyz you are our looking for tang, you know.

I was willing to commit to her, simply becuase she was everything that I could have ever wanted. She was a lot like me, and yet different. She is outgoing, loves the mountains, etc., all the same things that I like. But most importantly, almost everything that I lack, she has and vice versa.

We rarely argue or fight, didnt then, dont now. We talk things out and communicate very well. I think this is what has made us last for 9 years.

I will tell you that if I didnt "feel" it in my heart there is NO WAY in hell that I would have done it. However, everything I wanted from sex to communication to overall trust was there from day one. If any of that wasnt there, I would never have committed my life. There are simply way to many women out there.

This is just my opinion, and my experience, everyone is different.

I was 19 when I started dating my husband and I was 19 when I married him. Yes it affects your social life unless the other person is very laid back and totally secure. This July I will have been married 3 years. All I can say is what you want at 20 may not be what you want at 30 or 40 so keep that in mind. But if you find your soulmate and you truly know it in your heart that you are not settling, then go for it. But honestly you have the rest of your life to get married. Don't rush it. When you want to start having kids then maybe then you should get married, but have fun while you are young, even if its with just one person.

Sorry, but I forgot to answer these two questions.

1. 25 - 29
2. Not really. She got to know my friends and we all hung out together. By this time I was done with going out and partying. I got enough of that in college.

Together for 18 months. I was late twenties, she was early twenties. Positive impact on my social life, except less time with the guys. I was committed once we had been together for 6 months.

We dated for 6 years and then got married. We have ben married 15 years this July. I was 19 and married at 25 years old. No problem committing to her because like kronk said, she was everything I ever wanted. Socially, it didn't have an effect on me because of my business committments but basically my friends were too immature to grow up. They loved to party and do drugs but I wasn't into all of that.

Hey Pauly, this isn't exactly answering your question, but this points out one of the more important things about marriage that most people don't think about:

One morning you wake up. Azia doesn't. She is unconscious beside you. You immediately call the ER and she is rushed to the hospital. The two of you are UNmarried. She is put into ICU - and you can't even visit her. You AREN'T a member of her family. You have NO ability to take care of her as far as medical decisions that need to be made. In short, when someone you love needs you the most you are not going to be able to be there to help her.

and for those in their 20's who were exclusively dating 1 person, were there ever any urges to see other people? Not saying for just sex or whatever, but didn't you want to date other people as well? I understand the concept of hold on to what you've got if it's good, but what happens if you want her and then some more>?

I was always good at visiting pple past visitor hours. :) I do get your point though.

Once I was with her (dating her only) I never had any urge to see anyone else at all. For me it was becuase I had everything I wanted. I never had any doubt that this girl had everything I had always wanted. If I would have, I prolly wouldnt have married her.

I'm not married, but let me put in my .02. I was with a girl for 4 years. We were engaged also. It took me all those years to discover she sucked. That, and she cheated on me. I don't see any harm in waiting. She has family to care for her so all should be well. If you two are meant to be, I seriously don't see any reason why you two can't wait. I think the farthest you should go is a long engagement just to show your level of commitment. Either way, good luck.

I met my wife on Halloween in 1988. We dated then lived together till 91 when I married her. Never had any urges for anyone else because I wasd dating about 4 or 5 girls at the time I met her. I dropped them immediately because I knew she was the one for me. My playing the field days were over.

Dated 7 years......
Married for 14 years.....
Separated for 1.....
Happy for 2 ......

j/k

I've been dating my girlfriend for 4 years (there was one three month breakup period). We're getting married 1 year from now. We're 23, and totally comitted to each other. I look at girls, still talk about them when I'm out with the guys, but it's nothing that I have a real desire to act on. As long as she's open to you going out with friends and knows that you can say "I'd like to see what she's like in bed," but knows you would never get in bed with another woman, then you'll be cool. Friendships do tend to gravitate more toward other couples rather than singles, but that is because your interests and motivations are different, not because they're not fun to hang out with.

We defenitely don't have plans to get married or engaged in the next 5 years, that's for sure. See, this is my first relationship ever, and while I was seeing a few girls while we first started dating, I did dropped em all. I have absolutely no qualms about her, I love her and always will, no matter what happens in the future. Sometimes, for me anyways, it's hard to picture myself with her for the next ___ years without dating anyone else. I've always had a few girls I dated at once. We carry an open and honest relationship, so if something does arise we deal with it right then and there. We never fight/argue, and if we do it's about ridiculous shit that we laugh about 10 minutes later. I have fun hanging out with her too. I think all this extra testosterone is just clouding my fuckin mind.

Dated for 2 years before18-20 years old she was 16 -18 (she told me she was 17)

Married 17 years. It was hard the first 2 or three years of marriage(we basically still just kids) but we loved each so we stuck it out. Single friends are not good for married couples IMHO.

I talked to my wife last night...It'll be 15 years this July. Thank God the women isn't a stickler on our Anniversary.

Next Tuesday the CFO, CEO and COO of my company are going to be in town and wanted to take me to dinner. These guys make it to the East coast like twice a year. That day is my anniversary. Obivously, I told them I can't go. Flash back to marriage # 1, I would have made a different choice. Makes you understand why there was a marriage # 2.

I'm happy for you DOT! It puts a different perspective on marriage for those going through a divorce and never wanting to marry again.

btw....I'm glad you told them no. Driving a limosine and being a chauffeur is not what it is cracked up to be.;)

Met my wife in in 1994. I was 22 and she was 20 dated for 8 months and got married Apr 8 1995. Been happily married ever since. We now have 3 Girls ages 11,6 and 3 all there Birthdays are October 5,16 and 19th. My 11 year old daughter is my step daughter. We both dated aot before we met and its weird how you just know almost at first site that you will be together for a long time.
