I'm looking at getting the American College of Sports Medicine Board Certification and currently studying for it.
There is some confusion over this Certification Organization. There are actually 4 Different Certifications, CPT being the lowest of the four. As far as I understand the CPT cert is only a PearsonVue administered multiple choice exam. The more advanced certifications (that usually require a clinical/phys. ed degree) may require the practical component of the exam.
This Certification is for dealing with the typical gym member (i.e. decondition, older and with preexisting medical conditions). If you want to train athletes, bodybuilders, strength competitors or the stereotypical gym member then this is not the certification for you. There are plenty of other certs that are more geared to advanced exercises without dealing with special populations.
