Flying Scissor Heel Hook

I was looking up stuff on this Anderson Silva on Sherdog when I saw he had a loss via "flying scissor heel hook". Wtf?!

Seeing is believing. Check this video out here.

Another reason to pay closer attention to Pride fighters.

Cool vid. Looks like Silva was blissfully unaware- that heel hook took more than a few beats to develop and lock in.

What really caught my eye, though, was the link at the top of the blog to the latest T-Nation article about developing MMA sport specific strength. There's been more questions lately in the training forum about this. I've tried to answer a few if no one else has responded, which is usually the case. I'm not a trained fighter, which is usually the first thing I say as a disclaimer. There's been interest over at elitefts. about this, plus what I've read here, so I understood the basic concept of developing maximal and explosive strength but not at the expense of sport specific goals. I'd been giving them a basic rundown of this concept and providing them with a few links, which I felt was better than leaving their question unanswered. Basically a shotgun approach.

Waterbury's article, and it is the first of three, is superlative- presents a more than a few concepts I didn't know about, is well written, and has everything is one place. I finally feel capable of providing a qualified answer.
Some of the ideas discussed seem worthwhile on a personal level and I'm going to try a few when I've completed my present training cycles.

Any feedback on this article would also be appreciated.

K to you , Mike, for once again bringing important concepts to our attention.
