Will there be problems with a straight man playing this part?


What things should I do/not do in order not to upset the local gay community??


I personally have used the philosophy that if you are honest with the character and play him truthfully...very few people will complain.

If some view this post as being imbecilic - I apologize. I am just curious....

In real life both chacaters are straight. may I sugguest Presciall queen of the dessert to get and idea of how " queeny flaming folks are". most are funny and quick witted as theya re used to being teased. Many straight guys have played off very well gay characters ( robin williams in birdcage) so watch some movies. learn the hand and walk and use a slight lisp. As long as your not hurting or attacking gays won't find any problems with this its when we are called pediphilas, not normal etc do we have problems. Like I said if folks come to my show june 1st and meet me trust me you won't know I am gay but I can for sure play a flaming character if need be. Also maybe hang in a gay bar a weekend or two to see different types.

I hate to break the news to ya... but not all gays come across like Jack. As a matter of fact, only 2% of the gay population will be like that. Come to think of it again.... isn't Jack played by a straight guy? Or does a straight guy play the other character? I have never watched the show so I can't say.

Hang out in a gay bar and you will notice NOTHING. Maybe better music and nicer clothes, but other than that, the behaviour is not at all different than being in a straight bar.

Come to think of it once more... when it comes to throwing hissy fits and nelly manners, you may want to go over to triedia and talk with May and his group of queens over there.
