Flex Wheeler's book

Hey everyone. I just finished Flex Wheeler's book "Flex Ability"- I had been wanting to read it for awhile and finally picked it up. I basically finished it in about a day and a half. Interesting stuff in there about how he had to inject with 15 gauge "harpoons" back in the old days (late eighties and early nineties) and his first experience with dianabol. He basically stayed on all year round with daily injectables and orals throughout his 10+ year career- no science at all.

I also read a very candid interview with him in the August 2005 issue of Muscular Development which really picked up where his book left off. In the book he went into how he did the 2002 all natural (which in the article actually wasn't the case as he was on 200mg Deca ew as HRT for low test) and how he had stayed natural. In the article in MD he went on to say that he did go back on in 2003 risking death but because of so many health problems couldn't get rid of water. It actually wasn't the gear that was killing him it was the diuretics he was popping like candy and kidney didease. His Dr. had told him that it wasn't the gear.

Well I could go on but it was a very interesting read. Don't ever want to touch a diuretic after I read this book (never have anyways)!

in a nutshell that's how it is. year round. everyday shots. even bloodlevels no matter what. if any ? on ed shots go to basskillers spot and checkout the "new look at sustanon".

Yeah, I read some parts where he stated that people would just come up to him with bags of AAS and he would just take them in large quantities with no rhyme or reason. Genetics. That's all I can say.

It wasn't genetics. He started lifting in his teens and had got himself up to a whopping 140 pounds before he started using dbol. Once he went on he gained like 20-30 pounds within a few weeks of dbol (probably at very high doses)- then with the injectables he got himself to 300 pounds! Probably alot of water and fat as he competed around 230-240 but for a guy to go from 140 to 300 is a feat in itself.

He really dispells the "its his genetics" myth in the book- starting with how he was born prematurely and was basically a real frail weak kid growing up- the proverbial 90 pound weakling (he actually weighed that going into high school.

Sorry bro but it is in his genetics - not his natural ability to put on mass but his recpetor affinity, response to 'slin gh and other goodies. That is what separates them from the other 99.9% of us who lift and juice.

That's right. Flex had great structure, small joints, and billowing muscle bellies that responded unnaturally well to training and AAS/GH/slin. I could use the same amount and type of AAS and never look like him. I don't have his muscle bellies.

I'm not saying that it wasn't his genetics- I'm just reiterating what he was saying in response to critics always telling him that all he had to do was rub a plate the right way and he would grow another 10 pounds of LBM. He seems to imply that this is discrediting all the hard work and diet that it did actually take to make him a great bodybuilder. If you read MD you'll know what I'm talking about- the guy used to work out for eight hours a day when he first started getting serious. During precontest he would do up to three separate one hour sessions of hard cardio a day!

BTW I thought I was pushing it by doing 15 min. before and after I lifted! He was doing three hours per day!

That book truly touched me. I couldn't tell you how many times I got tears in my eyes reading it. It shows you how much more there is to a man than his physique. People tend to look at us (bb'ers) and think we are unfeeling and indestructible. The exact opposite is usually true, we are usually very soft hearted and loving. That book is an inspiration and truly puts life into perspective.

My favourite bodybuilder of all time, I met him at the Aussie GP thats where I picked up his book and got it signed. Absolute inspiration!

It was his genetics. I have been in the gym with that bitch many times and he is a fucking cream puff when it comes to weight training. The only person I saw lazier than him was Paul Dillett. It seemed that Flex spent more time throwing imaginary punches and elbow strikes against the upright pad in the pec dec than actually working out.

And he is nothing but a certifiable idiot. A complete tool. He blew through every penny of money he had. And when all the donations for his hospital bill came in from his fans, he spent it getting stupid ass tattoos all over his arms and shoulders. That don't represent jack shit.

And don't forget all the lies he told everyone when his lazy ass couldn't get in contest shape in time. Like the ninja's jumping him. When Shawn Ray and Chris Comerier have already publically gone on record in print and on getbig with saying it was because Flex spent $58 dollars eating at Mcdonalds two days before the Olympia.

were did you get his book?

I just bought it at my local bookstore- "Borders" in the Mall- I got like a 20% discount so the paperback ended up like around $10- you can probably find it at Amazon.com or elsewhere online.

BTW if you guys haven't read "Muscle: Confessions of an Unlikely Bodybuilder" by Samuel Wilson Fussell put that on your must read list I read it awhile ago like multiple times- it is friggin hilarious.

AAP: I never met the guy or anything like that just know him from the book and interviews and articles but you're probably right I mean you never really truly know what someone is like unless you meet up. There's alot of stories about pros being "not so friendly" because for them lifting is there livelihood not a hobby like for most of us. I don't know if I had my life earnings wrapped up in how big my biceps were I might be a dick too (actually I'd probably start synthol injections lol)!

He's royal cock. Fuck him and his book. I met him once and he fucked over me and my friends. A real winner.
He will admit he doesn't like the person he used to be. He is admittedly a changed man. He seems very genuine.

Fucked you over how?

Like 6 years back or so Flex was doing an autograph signing at a health food store not far from where I live. So me and and a kid from work and his friend went down. He was saying how cold he was and kept complaining about it. The lady that was a rep for BioChem (who he was with at the time) was bustin his balls and told him she'd go get him hot cocoa at Dunkin Donuts in the same shoppingg center and he was all about it and added that he wanted some doughnuts too. So me and the guys I was with were like, fuck it, we'll go for ya since he was answering questions for us. So the rep ladyt offers us money and we're like, no way, we got this, no problem. We get him hot cocoa and doughnuts and bring them back to him. So he gives us all free BioChem hats. Okay, nice gesture. We break his balls a little about eating doughnuts and drinking hot cocoa. He laughs and tells us he really could go for pizza from the nearby pizza place, that if we were gonna be around later, that he's gonna get some, that we could go eat pizza with him. So I figure he's kidding. The kid I worked with was like 19 at the time and is thinkin maybe he meant it. So I told him to ask. So he does and Flex is like, yeah, if you're gonna be around, we'll get all get pizza later. So we habg out outside this health food store for like 2-3 hours doing absolutely nothing. We were 45min from where we lived, so we didn't go anywhere. Just hung out since we didn't know the area too well or what was around. and we told him we'd be chillin till he was done, and he said, okay cool. Now mind you, it's damp and rainy and a little bit cold out. Me myself, I completely blow off my cousin's christening, thinkin, fuck it, how many chances will I have to get lunch with Flex and bullshit with him for a while. So we wait outside all afternoon. Well after he's done, he doesn't even come outside. he has his limo go around back and pick him up and he takes off in his limo. And that's how he fucked us over and why he's a fuckin cock. So fuck em.

Never met the guy, but from what I saw in his training video (I forget the name) he seemed like a total asshole.

My Doctor used to compete with Flex, and of course counseled him as a doctor as well. His kidneys were heading for failure long before it actually happened and it was NOT diuretics I can assure you. While he may have abused them, it was other "stuff" he was putting into his body in too large of amounts that killed the kidneys. I cannot say more, I believe it's too personal for Flex and my doc.

Read his book and you will see him in a different light I guarantee it.

After his "TAles from the Darkside" articles in MD magazine, all I see him for is a bigger jerk than I ever thought him to be.

It was Flex Wheelers genetics that got him to where he was. His genentics allowed him to put on tons of mass. Others could take the same amount of drugs and not get the results he got. And i believe Victor Conte did tests on him that showed his myostatin gene or sum shit like that made him capable of putting on more mass than the average person?...........And when i talk about his genetics. I mean his genetics that allow him to use massive amounts of drugs that allow him to put on the muscle. ...........I know of huge guys that everyone says if they were to use drugs that they would be monsters? Well it doesnt work this way. Cus ive seen this big guys finally go on and they just dont respond as well to the gear. Its just one of those fucked up things. Then u have the skinny guy that goes on 200mgs of test and blows up.lol

No it was not rec. drugs, but he did not listen to his doctor on amount of gear he was taking and his diet was terrible for his kidneys also.....cant say more without offending someone and with respect to him I probably should have at all...sorry for the tease.

That's cool. Do you think he had his kidney problems from the gear then?

He had a hereditary kidney disease supposedly since birth that was "latent". Its called FSGS (focal segmental glomerulosclerosis)- "the most aggressive kidney disease known to man".

What I was saying is that it might not have been the diuretics that was killing him- but can you really tell me with a straight face that taking megadoses of diuretics isn't going to aggravate this condition?

was not directly the gear no, most of it was the 600mg of protein a day his body could not handle even when on gear than anything else. His failure we predicted several years before it actually happened, he made no changes and the prediction came true, I talked to his doc just last tuesday again that predicted it and worked with him thru his career.

That's what I thought. I didn't think it was the gear, although it couldn't have helped. I knew about his disease and had read that the diets and diuretics just made it worse. There's no doubt in my mind that diuretics played a major role in it.

Holy shit that's a ton of food, I can't imagine getting all that from clean food w/out the aid of replacement shakes.

I don't give a fuck about flex but this part: I completely blow off my cousin's christening, thinkin, fuck it, how many chances will I have to get lunch with Flex and bullshit with him for a while. Says a lot about you. Bullshitting and eating piazza is more important then your family. You might be right that Flex is a tool but there seems to be a lot of them around.
