flat shoes

What's the best type of shoe to wear when squatting? I've always worn a regular trainer, but think I might like to try something flat. Anyone here wear a wrestling type shoe to squat?

i wear wrestling shoes and like them alot but i also like chucks alot. my foot rolls less in chucks though.

Thanks for the quick response! I was looking at some pretty reasonably priced adidas wrestlers and thought I could really get a good grip with those babies! I just didn't want to look like a total idiot on my leg day, but then again I'd be okay with that if they help my stance.

i used to where cross-trainers, i switched to a pair of puma's i've had for awhile and never wear. the basic flat bottom pumas. they come in about any color combo imaginable. anyways, they work like magic. i can go ATF and have NO balance issues. they make a huge difference. worth a try in my opinion, and they're only like $40-$50.

I have no clue how you fellas can squat with wrestling shoes on!! They have absolutely zero arch support. My feet would collapse! :D Then again, Arnold squatted in his bare feet. Crazy bastards! For me, it is Nike Cross-Trainers all the way.

Do you squat wide or close?

Then I suggest a pair of Adidas Olympic Weightlifting Shoes. The best that you can buy for a close stance squatter.

What about for a wide stance?

Depends on what you call wide. Wide is what I'd call 48" +

Chuck Taylors for Wide stance...

MUCH cheaper as well...

What about alternatives to oly shoes? Something sort of cheap like chuck's but for full squats. I'm using running shoes which I'm sure are not a very good option.

Maybe CCJ can post on here and give some advice. I'm not one on sparing $ if it means that I can't get a good quality product...I hate knowing that there is something out there better than what I have.

Personally I like Chucks or Vans with some type of arch support in them, since I have a good arch in my foot.
