flat Barbell or Dumbbell press?

I'm looking to get some good chest development going, I was just wondering what the consensus around here is on whether to go with dumbbells or barbell.

I have been using strictly dumbells on the flat bench for a few weeks now. I really like it. I am getting a very good pump. Also, I do a lot of my lifting without a spotter and dumbells are easier to drop and not kill myself with if it comes to that.

Run a search. Please..run a search.

I found DB to be the best for me. I have a shoulder problem and it seemed to take some of the pain away from the workout

Either. They're both great, but on BB if you get real small plates you can increment in even smaller amounts. This could result in continuous progression. which is a good thing.

Did that, all I came up with was routines and stuff... I'm not looking for that.

do a search and type in the word "bench overrated", that should see where we all stood on this about 2 weeks ago....

:lmao:

i do dumbell press, but it sucks when the next dumbell up is 10kg more and is also broken :( BB bench you rarely get that problem

i lurve parallel dips though....my fave compund movement for shoulders, pecs and tri's :) not my elbows though ;)

I think personally, DB is the way to go if you are trying to develop the chest more. If you primarily use barbell, it is always good to switch it up. Depends on who you are bro, everything work differently on people. I say try to work more DB exercises in to your chest routine!

When I'm going heavy with pressing motions I like to use barbells, but I also like to use dumbells for exercises like fly's. I believe you must use both.

most ppl will say do inlcine bench, and ditch flat bench. i believe you should do both though, referring to the flat bench and dumbells. dumbells are a great isolation movement on the chest, but flat bench builds great strength and mass, it just limits range and causes more shoulder involvement than inlcine, or dumbell movements, i would still do flat bench at least once every two weeks.

I like to rotate the two exercises. Right now I lead off with flat bench. I have been getting steady gains each week and as soon as the gains slow I'll start using dumbells until those gains stall.

Dumbells=great pec developement...
Barbell=whole pectroal girdle and shoulders too....

Progression= increasing weight increases muscle mass and neuromuscular coordination.....

Dumbells give you a greater range of motion, greater stretch, therefore a greater stress on each muscle fiber, leading to more significant contractions with every rep.
