five tetra

Chaddycakes

New member
Hello, ok so me and my buddy walk in to GNC tonight just for fun and to laugh at the crazy high prices in there. We ended up talking to an employee who was pretty big himself about what we could do to get bigger (other than high protein and creatine). So he mentioned that he has been taking five tetra and it has really helped him to lift a few more reps in a set than he could before. He also mentioned that when combined with creatine it does wonders because it allows the creatine to be better absorbed into the muscle. So my questions are.
Have any of you guys taken this supplement and seen gains?
Is it safe to use, have you seen any side effects?
Thanks for your time.

5-TETRA

Well, I hope you haven't started taking them just yet, lol.

Ingredients:
  • Cordyceps Sinensis Extract - (one of the 'natural' ingredients of 5-TETRA) is extracted from the dead bodies of various insects. It is quite popular in China. It is believed to increase ATP levels and oxygen uptake.
  • Adenosine - is used during the transfer of energy - ATP / ADP. In large doses you may experience flushing of the face, dizziness, or nausea.
  • Yohimbine HCI - a thermogenic which will increase norepinephrine levels
  • Calcium Pyruvate - a compound used in the Krebs Cycle, again for ATP production. Pyruvate is usually associated with weight loss products but must be consumed at very high levels.
  • Adenylpyrophosphoric Acid - will break down into phosphagen which will be used in conjunction with the pyruvate.

Avoid using 5-TETRA if you are using diuretics, L-theanine, St. John's Wart, or 5-HTP (5-Hydroxytryptophan)

Consume on an empty stomach ... if you like eating bugs. :D

ATP (Adenosine Tri-Phosphate), in terms of exercise, is the energy your body uses when you contract your muscles. The energy is released when ATP breaks down into ADP (Adenosine Diphosphate). You will have likely seen these terms mentioned when discussing creatine. As mentioned, adenosine, pyruvate, and adenylpyrophosphoric acid are all interconnected in the production of ATP and the release of energy via the ATP/ADP cycle. Therefore, if you were to consume these, you would experience an increase in available energy which may be of benefit if you are involved in short-term, resistance training. Their affect would be further enhanced by also consuming dextrose.

5-TETRA, due to the presence of Yohimbine HCI, allbeit in small quantities, makes this supplement only suitable for individuals on a cutting cycle. So the GNC employee was mistaken in his suggestion of use for adding mass. His suggestion of using 5-TETRA in combination with a creatine supplement also has to be cautioned as creatine, especially non-micronised versions of creatine, will have diuretic properties.

As for the Cordyceps, although it has been around for centuries, I can't say as to whether or not it has a direct affect on ATP levels or if the other associated and 'claimed' benefits are factual. It is, though, extracted from insects but it sounds much better on the label when you just put Cordyceps Sinensis Extract.

so...pretty much only take it as a fat burning aid? and never with creatine?

5-TETRA would primarilly be used to top up energy (ATP) reserves when you are limiting your carbohydrate intake during cutting. The secondary component, Yohimbine HCL, would aid in reducing fat levels. The level of pyruvate is not adequate to aid in fat reduction.

And, no on the creatine use.
