First Tropical Depression of the season

Lowe's is selling gasoline whole house generators over here, but they're above ground. Seems like debris could take it out. Have to build a cinderblock shelter for it, I guess.

Yeah those are 15,000 size. 16 gallon tank on it that runs at 50% for 9 hours. 50% doesn't mean running your whole house A/C unit. Rev that up and you get maybe 4-5 hours off 16 gallons. Which means you basically have to fill up 55 gallon drum barrels to have enough gas to make it a week. And that is even assuming you will find a gas station open. Last Oct. the gas stations were closed the first week and the second and third week only limited ones were open and you had to park your car and wait forever to get in. Remember the thread where I car-sat for a friend so he could get gas near my house? I drove over at 4AM and got in line which already went around the block. The station opened at 6AM and it was 11:45AM by the time I reached the pump. And they were only allowing gas for cars, no gas in cans or containers at all.

My generator is above ground as well, but I bought one of those trifold duraplastic sheds from Home Depot to put around it. Between that and the shelter from the neighbors house, I guess it is pretty protected. But mine runs off propane which is hella cheaper than gasoline.

The only drawback is that everyone you ever looked at in town even once wants to come over and crash when they lose power.

Wow. The spillway at Little Pine Dam. Cool. Spent a lot of time in/on Pine Creek (Big and Little) when I was growing up. When I was in high school, some of my friends and I would get a few cases of beer and a few canoes. . .someone would drop us off up in Waterville and we would float down drinking and fishing for bass with Rapala Minnows and we would stop and jump off of every bridge the whole way down to my buddy's house. Good old fashioned red-neck fun. . .dems were da days. :)

My father took that pic. You know how high that spillway is in comparison to Little Pine lake's normal surface. That's a lot of water. We camped all the time up at Petticote Junction in Cedar Run. We'd tube from Blackwell to Cedar Run all the time.

i wouldn't mind if we got the EDGE of this one.....we NEED some rain! we are in a drought situation here in new orleans.

perhaps a 2 day DRIZZLE.........

I know how you feel we haven't gotten a full day's rainfall in two months.

There are quite a few old strip mines up in that area and we used to hit them with our dirt bikes to do some hill climbing. Petticote Junction (at the store) was a gas-up stop along the way. We'd ride our motocross bikes right into town, fill up and head back into the hills. Big fun. Hadn't thought about it for a while. Thanks for the blast from the past. :)

Ain't that a kick? Feast or famine, eh? Be careful what you wish for. Hell, I figured you guys would still have a bunch of water laying around from last year.
