First Human Clone !

We all knew it was going to happen. The question was when. I am for anything that can improve the overall quality of human life on this planet.

they are playing w/ fire.. I think they should have at least waited until they successfully cloned an animal. They have clones but they are all screwed up.. the sheep have diseases, the cat did not come out the right color,. They have not been able to produce a perfect "clone".

Genetics is only a small part of our development. We are all products of our environment and nature will keep that environment balanced.

uughh.......that man really pisses me off. what good does he think he will bring? he's just someone who;s trying to make a name for himself, if that clone is born defected i hope tghey bring legal action against him somehow

How do you define cloning?

I admit I have not read much on this subject and do need to, but this to me sounds nothing more than In Vitro Fertilization. After all, the child to born will not have the same thoughts, memories, or experiences that the child/person they were cloned from.

well i would imagine they clone similar to the way they cloned dolly the sheep (took a cell nucleus from her breast, inserted it into another egg cell and let that develop....i think thats how they did it)...or do the same with the father or another way

the child wont have the same memories etc but it stands a good chance of dying very young or having all kinds of birth defects

That is so sad!!:(

How can you perform experiments on humans when the ones that you have tried on animals have failed?

I guess no matter the outcome, he can claim he was the first to try this. Maybe that's all that matters to him.

Why is man so afraid of cloning??? Because it puts ethics of our mortality and question there-of in the spotlight? Or is it the disease thing? I don't buy into the idea life after death so why not allow clones-shouldn't it be my right as a human being? Cloning technology may also be neccicary to save the human race someday. Never hold science back.

so if this child grows up, develops a personality, and is a sucess, does this mean that science has built the human soul? i wonder what effects/consequences this will have on religious values...

What if "god" really was an advanced visiting extra-terrestrial human being who came here and used their superior DNA to construct our different races which became "degraded" some through the cloning processes? This could help explain the idea of no missing link (first batches were too primal and erased) and how the true message of religion that "god" wanted passed on to live peacfully and happily was convoluted by wise mans' poor memeories, egos and late night drunken tales by the fire exagerated throughout generations before there was enough literacy to put a book together? What does the bible say about cloning? Couldn't it be argued that Eve (or Eves pl.) was actually a clone from Adam?

because the newborn produced will have so many defects, because thousands of embryo's and babies will have to be killed due to defects in growth, because cloning is BAD for a species gene pool and because genetically manipulating on a whim is seen as undesirable.

religiously....there are ethical issues about toying with the DNA of man, but i dont think cloning as a whole is a bad idea (in animals for instance we could make a sheep that produces factor * in its milk, making life simle for haemophiliacs), but in humans it serves no purpose, there are other means of getting a child

no i dont think anyway , she's female. XX :) man = XY

i do agree with your 'design' theory though :) nice idea, ive always thought we are wayyy to sophisticated to just be a 'chance' event, given the diversity of life we've created on the back of carbon, hydrogen, sulphur, oxygen, notrogen etc :)

The kid will come out a monster and have a terrible life. It's demise will be when a mob of angry people with torches go chasing it back to its home where it kills its master.

My undergrad was genetics. Personally, I'm amazed that people really believe this is the first. They made a big deal out of Dolly, but fact is, there was a pig cloned in perfect health at the University of Missouri Ag school in the early 60's. The science, technology, and know-how have been around WAY too long. This is the media tested version.

:)

Funny how they can pretty much get us to believe whatever we see on the news is the latest and most important controversy in the world.

And its official. For those guys that don't know yet, we can now create a sperm from a woman's cell and use it to impregnate another woman. So we(men) are no longer technically needed here anyway.
