Im guessing you dont have a normal 9-5 job
I'm self-employed now, but up until 2006, I was an electronics tech... I worked in the engineering lab with a subcontractor for Boeing. No problem with the ear plugs, and nothing else is visible. But that's in California, and it's not a "yuppie" job, such as an accounting or business firm. But I am seeing heavily pierced guys in the suit & tie sector in SoCal, which wasn't seen 10 years ago.
I think my appearance gives me an advantage in some cases, as I look dumbed down, and people in buisness let their guard down a little with me. What's interesting is negotiating some sort of a business agreement all in writing and by phone, with my written and verbal skills, then comes time to meet & sign... They approach me with a look on their faces like, "Where's the gentleman with whom I have dealt in this matter... Did you arrive here on a skateboard?"
It's especially fun to f*ck with real estate brokers.... My wife and I had been looking to invest in a small apartment building a couple years ago, and when I made an appointment to look at the books on one that was for sale, the broker nearly laughed us out of the office. But the laughing stopped when the retired motocross stunt girl and the pierced, flat-bill hat-wearing dude wearing holey Levi's and an SRH shirt, in the beat-up primered Toyota 4x4, bought the building with a 30-day escrow. That was fun! I don't think that broker will ever look at a pierced guy the same way again.
