Finding a new gym!

Holy crap, I think I'm going to kill every gym owner in my area. They all suck, we've got Westside which is cool looking, the people seem nice, and they have a pool which is a major plus, but they don't have a squat rack! So they are crossed off the list, you've got Peak Fitness down the street for $30 more for their 3 months student membership, but they only have 2 squat racks beside 2 smith machines, but they've got like a million members, and its a really big gym, which I'm trying to get away from. They are still on the list but will quickly be crossed off if I can find a small gym, that will let me do a 3 month prepay because I'm going to college, that has a few squat racks and benchs. How hard is that? My dream gym has 3 benchs, 3 squat racks, a sit up seat, a hypers seat, and like 2 treadmills, like 50 members, and is playing hardcore rap and rock ONLY. Im seriously considering investing into my own home gym.

Your dream gym only exists in your basement or garage.

Aside form that it is hard to find a gym these days that has everything you want.

I was lucky and found a gym with 2 squat racks and a squat stand, doesn't care if I use chalk, has nice new york commercial grade bars, clean.

If you have a bit of cash you can buy a squat rack, (or if you don't have room, a squat stand), pick up an olympic bar and weight's (a set with 300lbs usually goes for 250 or so), a flat bench, and a rubber mat from an animal feed store for 50.00. You can save even more if you buy used stuff off of ebay or kijiji. The entire setup shouldn't cost that much and you have it for life.

Well I actually already own a bench and olympic weights, and two olympic bars, plus a curl bar, but I also want those hyper seats and sit ups seats, and I would need to get a squat rack, the used squat racks in my area that I've seen are runnin about $500, I'm a student and can't really afford to pay that right now and we have a treadmill but its super crappy, I can't use it because I weigh to much. So pretty much I need a gym for its squat rack, treadmill, and seats. I just went to a place downtown, it was super cheap, only 20 a month and it had decent equipment, but no squat rack! what's wrong with these people.

i go to a gym with 2 squat racks and a bizillion members.... i almost never have to wait to use one, simply because PEOPLE DONT SQUAT ...and if they do, they use the smith...
when you checked out the gym with 2 racks, were they even being used?... i bet they get more curl action than squatting... and worse comes to worse you can always ask to work in with someone... good way to make training partners...

true, I might have to settle with peak, i'll see if I can get them down on their price, I've visited 4 gyms, I'm about to go visit another one downtown, I heard it was supposed to be a little more hardcore, I'll go check it out, if it sucks, I'll work on peak

Hello there,

Where do you live? This may sound weird, but a 24 hour fitness might work for you. The one in my area is the lowest level one: express. It's good because they have two squat racks and one power rack. Nobody really uses them even during rush hour. People just do leg press or use the smith machines. Ocassionally you will get someone doing some curls in there, but not very often.

They don't play your music though. More like Top 40's pop music.

Work on Peak? What does that mean?

Look in your area on kijiji . com there should be a cheap use power rack, or squat rack.

As for abs, just do decline sit up's with a dumbell on your chest.

I was hoping they could drop their price, but they can't, supposudly, I don't care much about the price, I joined and I hate it, this f'n sucks!

Wehre did you join?

Usually a gym will give you a free week to try it out before you join.

If you have a 24hour fitness in your area and a costco card, you can get 2 years for $299.00. If you don't have a costco card one can be obtained for about $70.00. It's good to have one since you're a student. You can always take a few laps around costco and eat their free sample foods. It's what I did while in college.

Just google "costco 24hour" and it'll show you the deal. It's what i'm using right now.
