Felt good last night.

So I ran into this guy last night that I met on tuesday. So he tells me that he is shipping out today to go back to Iraq(Marine Sniper). It was good to get to talk with someone with his perspective on things. I've had a few friends come back now and it's amazing to hear what they think. Anyways I shook his hand and said "I know you don't get this much, but thanks for doing what your doing". I don't think the troops hear that enough and just get all the negative feelings towards the situation.

Friend of mine came back. Hates it over there. Fears for his life everyday and doesn't want to leave a pregnant widow.

You think about all the crap they have to dealwith out there, and all the unavoidable trouble at home with family etc, the poor bastards really do bleed their hearts out for their country

so what do they think?

All the guys I have talked to agree that we need to be there and that most of the Iraqi people are very thankful that Saddam is gone and that we are helping them rebuild. My friend who was there for nine months in the Army Corps of Engineers was helping to rebuild the infrastructure. He and his guys got a crate of soccer balls with every delivery they recieved. So everytime they passed a group of kids playing they would toss a couple of the balls over to them and wave as they drove by. Funny how the press doesn't cover things like that, but one person fucks up and it's front page news about how evil we are.

All news is bad news. When did you ever read a good news story?

Only here in Denver when we had the fucking polar bear cubs at the zoo. For weeks there was nothing on the front page of the papers but pics of the bears. Now I like polar bears and all but it isn't exactly front page material day after day after day.

Yep when it comes down to it happy news doesn't sell subscriptions. Humans have an inherent morbid curiosity that most people fufill in quiet shame. Put a dead body on the news and ratings skyrocket, put 100,000 ppl dieing on the new and everyone is glued to the tv. Besides it is easier to throw mud than to try and build something up.
