Feet on the bench phenomenon

longarms

New member
If there's one thing that gets my goat more than curling in the squat rack, it's these guys that bench with their feet up on the bench, or even worse, with their feet up in the air.
Maybe I should "belt" them to the bench just to make sure they don't fall off! It would be for their own safety.

Ya know, the earth is spinning pretty fast, I like to keep my feet on the floor most of the time.:nerd:

That would be the 2nd rule if I had my own gym.

At school I would see athletes doing this. The reason they were doing this they said, was for stability work. Yet when it came time to train their lower bodies, the few that did squat, would do it in the smith machine.

Oh, I forgot the ones that raise their butt during the lift, so they only have their traps & feet on the bench. Instant decline without the bench.

I get tons of people tell me they bench this way because it better "isolates their chest." I assume they think that eliminating any sort of leg drive/stability will better work their chests. I just see it as the rest of you do.....a instability problem waiting to happen

Back in High School, the football strength coach taught everyone to bench this way.

This board wasn't around then, and most people don't know any better and rely on their coaches for direction.

I used to bench that way myself. That was the way I was taught.

I was lucky I had a good coach in High School. I wish I had kept at it all these years.

same here, well actually i did, just didnt know about it, dam it.

my biggest problem was no one teaching me how to eat properly. They told me to eat chicken and fish, but not why i should. No one told me how much. Now that i am doing that im seeing great gains.
