FedEx innefficiency

I bought a 600mm Canon FD lense (mint condition) from an individual in Vancouver. It was sent 2 day fedex. It made it all the way to Oakland, CA and then got sent to a sort facility in Memphis, TN. Christ all mighty. They flew right over my fucking house most likely here in AZ. Talk about a waste of resources, fuel etc.

FedEx rules... UPS is poop - be glad you ordered through FedEx.

i live in NYC and never had a prob with UPS, i use them all the time, ive used fedex as well and it seems the same to me.

Purolator "misplaced" my new processor
Fedex held my supplements at the border for "tax purposes"
UPS took 2 weeks to get there,
and the package I sent in the mail never made it

All Fedex packages go to Memphis for sorting
regardless of source or destination.
All their flights arrive around 8-11pm,
then millions of packages come out and whiz around on automated conveyor belts
and all the planes take off again 2-5 am.
Something like 800 planes are taking off and landing a minute apart all night.
Incredible operation. Brother works for them.

John is 100% correct.

I work in the Memphis hub on weekends and the place is amazing. It is like a minature city when sort time rolls around.

If you are ever in Memphis, I would suggest taking a tour of the place during a night sort.

Still inefficient

Here is why I think they do what they do. Memphis is the world hub. The hub is about the size of 8-10 football fields. There is something like 40,000-50,000 employees who work at the Hub throughout the week. Places like this cost mega money to build and keep running. I am sure Fedex has weighed the costs and benefits of building more large hubs in order to satisfy what you think is efficient. It is obvious that they have found they save more by sending everything to memphis, instead of building hubs in every city. This would be very expensive if there was one in every city.

Did you get your package on time?

Nope! It was two day and it is going on 4!

Well, then that is a problem. Now tha I think about it, I have no clue why they would send it from Oakland to Memphis. There is a small-scale hub in Oakland. I might ask this weekend.

Have you called Fedex? The sender may be able to get some type of refund.
