Fear (advice seeked)

furious

New member
School starts in January. I am 31 years old come Thursday. I have only taken one course at the college level : japanese with a B. I know medicine is my passion, but I have a fear.
Am I smart enough? Can I hack it? Everything I have felt a passion for I have excelled at, but medicine is something different.
Have any of you had to cope with this fear? How do I prepare myself for school?
Damn I need a mentor.
Anyone with advice, please email me.
Peace.

This is prolly the first time in years I have felt fear. Weird.

College grading is a joke! As long as you kiss some butt and study you will do fine. And at 31 you could get away with dating your Profesors and get straight A's!

Being afraid of something is one of the primary ways to give yourself an unnecessary disadvantage.

Never be afraid.

EVEN IN THE FACE OF THE GREATEST CHALLENGE YOU WILL FACE IN YOUR LIFE - do not be afraid. Doing that, you've taken the first step in achieving your goals.

what branch of medicine are you studying? will you need to go to graduate school?

if you don't need to go to grad school, then a 2.0-2.5 GPA for an associates or bachelors will probably suffice.

Don't worry about the age thing,.
You will find more people there your age than you think.

Good luck and stick with it.
You can make it happen.:)

This is gonna sound cheesy but you get what you put in.

I've met brilliant college dropouts, and semi intelligent people with their masters.

Work hard. That's it.

I'm a perennial student, Furious, and older than you. Sometimes, I sit in a class and feel like I should tell everyone to put their heads on their desks while I tell them a naptime story and get their lunch ready.

furious,

I think it's great you are going back to college. I just finished a couple classes and I'm 31.

Heck, my mom just retired to North Carolina and started going to college. She is alomst 60. She is so cute :) :)

Go For It!!

Fate loves the fearless!!!!

Remember that Furious, "Fate loves the fearless!!!"

Also, there is this Zen saying:

"He who would be sure of his path must close his eyes and tread in the dark."

I like that. There are no guarantees. The way of peace is to close your eyes and leap and accept whatever comes.

Just work your ass off!!

Hey i think you'll do just fine , my mother who is 47 has a passion for that also, and just decided 3 weeks ago that she's going into training to become a Nurse, im very proud of her:) Good luck.

Thanks for all the kind words. I was hit with the fear of the unknown, the same fear I felt before I got my first IT job. And I did pretty well at that, I know I will excell at medicine.

Peace.

courage

Courage is not the absence of fear: it is the realization that there is something more important than fear.....

didn't read the entire thread, but when I'm afraid I always think of this; doing what's right WHEN you're afraid is a sign of true courage, not the absence of fear.
damn...that was deep:biggrin:
