fax email programs

Any of them beat the hell out of having to dedicate a second phone line. That said....

eFax sucks with all the whining to upgrade your account that continues even after you upgrade. And the fax spammers know most of their numbers, so you get fax spam that they won't filter... and they won't use the Federal law that would let them sue the bastards out of business -- they could dedicate one intern to the job and it would become a profit center for them, but no-o-o-o-o....

I finally went with send2fax, put like $12 on deposit for a basic account and I'm set for the year. (I send *maybe* two faxes a year.)

www.k7.net

handles Vm and faxes...will store on site and/or dump directly into your email - uses Windows Media Player for VM

Free as well....I have been using it for over a year and havent missed a fax or VM

What's your fax number, broham?

isn't there software to do this that doesnt make you sign up for some bullshit service for the rest of your life?

Efax sucks.

I bought a $150 Canon printer with scanner and copier. I Scan documents into my My Documents section and then send as emails with attachments. So simple and quick and no EFAX BS.

the k7 converts the fax and VM into email which you can access on any computer...AND its free

I tried it today.
I sent myself a fax at 9:40AM..

I received it at 5:50PM...

That's not acceptable for me.

How do you know it wasnt your email handler??

Outlook Express always delays showing them

Gmail is always faster in showing them than Express

The actual k7 account shows them within 2-3 minutes

I get mine within 15 minutes.

very odd.

yes and no.

Snappy Fax includes the most extensive set of features of any stand-alone fax program in its price range. For that matter, we are not aware of any fax program in any price range that has as many features.

Requirements:

Pentium class PC
Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP
64mb ram minimum, 128mb or more recommended
20mb disk space (actual space requirments will depend on fax volume)
Fax Capable modem
Scanner (optional, if you want to scan paper documents for faxing)

Note: Cable and DSL modems are not fax capable. They do not contain the circuitry required for communicating with fax machines. Your system can easily accommodate a fax modem along with your cable or dsl modem without hardware conflicts.

Overview of Features:
Faxes can be sent from any Windows program
Receive faxes directly to your PC
Supports acquiring images from your scanner for faxing
Supports flat-bed or auto-sheet fed scanners
Compatible with all Twain compliant scanners
Fax Queueing (broadcasting) - faxes may be queued to send at a specific date, time and frequency or to send on-demand. Great for sending out that weekly newsletter or other publication.
Support sending fax images via email
Send as an email attachment
Send as an inline email image
Automatic forwarding of incoming faxes to either another fax machine, or any number
of email addresses.
Filtering of unwanted incoming junk faxes.
"Capture mode" allows you to capture images from different windows applications and send as one multi-page fax in a single transmission.
Automatically generate ready-to-fax images of Word or Excel documents or documents from other applications that support the "printto" command line directive.
Fax images can be printed automatically (incoming) or printed at any time on-demand (outgoing and incoming)
Supports saving of fax images in PDF Format
Fax images can be sent to a website for viewing with a web browser.
Supports sending and receiving faxes to other Snappy Fax users via email, ftp or local area network
You can easily resend a fax without re-entering any information. The entire fax or just specific pages can be sent.
Includes Address Book which supports Importing from Outlook contacts
Includes extensive set of tools to annotate (markup) fax images.
Image manipulation tools included:
Rotate image
Despeckle Image (remove "dust")
Deskew (Straighten) image

And more...
Optional Optical Character Recognition module can produce editable text from fax image. Includes "live" spell checking and numerous dictionaries.

It's not really what I'm looking for - cool program though.
I want an additional # not just fax off my computer and receiving to my computer.

I'm going to try MaxEmail next.

...I just checked something from today.

Client emailed that he was sending a fax.

the fax was on the k7 site 12 minutes later and in my gmail account 2 minutes after that.

Dunno....

if its not working its not working though.

the issue with snappy fax is that it requires a land line, yes?

yeah, snappy fax needs a land-line, since cable/dsl doesn't support faxing atm (which is surprising, since they can handle voip).

if you need a backup of your already purchased snappy fax, i can point you in the right direction.

there are 2 different ways to set it up.

snappyfax + pcanywhere - this would allow the fax program running on your home/office pc, and the pc anywhere would allow you to connect to your pc over any internet connection. by doing this, you could download the fax files or even fax a document from your home computer.

snappyfax + sendmail - this would allow you to write a script for the sendmail program to automatically email you any saved file once it is completed.

both work, and both are viable options.

I looked it up on site and it came to the site in 12 min - but I often email myself and I get it in seconds. It's worthing trying again - I mean you never know.

Interesting.

I JUST had a fax pop up in my gmail

...it was sent yesterday afternoon.

the k7 site had it within minutes.

Wonder if anyone else is having gmail issues

I am going to change the routing email addy and see if the gmail is the *possible* issue
