~SC~ said:Running is definitely NOT a good form of fat burning cardio.
Don't know if that was what your question about cardio was in regards to, but running is horrid, also very bad on the knees. Later in life you'll see what I mean.
OXANDRIN said:people like the Elliptical cause its easy......but in the end running is the only real cardio other than cycling
~SC~ said:Running is NOT that zone brutha, it stinks! If you wish to be a skinny b-ball player, fine, but how many fitness buffs/bodybuilders do you see running?
OXANDRIN said:my point wasn't so much about bodybuilders........
if you look at the people on these boards most of them carry decent amounts of weight (fat/muscle). their goals are all different but people doing cardio are generally looking to lose weight (fat/muscle) walking on a treadmill burns anywhere from 200-400 calories an hour. running any where from 600-1000.
I run 8 minute miles at a heartrate of about 130-140. I'm 21 years old so i'm working at about 65-70% of my max.
for weight loss running is best. why? cause you burn the most calories during and after. you also increase your body's ability to use fat as energy.
~SC~ said:Ummm, Oh.....
So, beat up your ankles/knees/lower back to burn up "calories" which is not indicative of fat loss? Run just to run huh??
I know many aren't bodybuilders, but burning lean muscle tissue "just because" is not something I really knew anyone, regardless of goals, would really want to do. Especially seeing as the more lean mass one held ON TO, the LESS one would have to RUN.
I guess you learn something new everyday.![]()

I've walked 16 miles in one day (measured with a pedometer) and 54 miles in a weekend.....Love walking....more interesting than the machines at the gym.....The hub & I walk to the gym every day...
JKurz1 said:Great and all, since it can be very mentally soothing, but it's just not gonna get you the results that HIT or any other type of cardio is going to yield....I mean, I'll play 18 holes 2x a week, but I def. don't sub. it in for my cardio training..............
Wohoo! Well, seems like I have to up my walkin abit though.jenscats5 said:All right! Another walker!!

I see people do this and rave about it...........mainly because they take their sweet ass time (go get water, towel off, etc.) in between stations........IMHO, this defeats the purpose of cardio (letting or HR get back to resting).........Id much rather hit one machine for intense 30-35minutes, not letting my body recover until the timer reads 0:00..........COLD238 said:MY FAVORITE IS A COMBO.15 min stair stepper/15 min stat. bike/15 min row machine 6 days a week all done back to back
well for your info i have my on gym at home and have evrything set up so i can go directly to each station with out missing a beat.after 12 years of the one station for cardio thing i have found this works best for me now.dont look at my post and think i am some kid here who does not know what he is doing.JKurz1 said:I see people do this and rave about it...........mainly because they take their sweet ass time (go get water, towel off, etc.) in between stations........IMHO, this defeats the purpose of cardio (letting or HR get back to resting).........Id much rather hit one machine for intense 30-35minutes, not letting my body recover until the timer reads 0:00..........
SoreArms said:I also like the low impact of the elliptical, however, I think that actual running is much beter for you. The problem is that since I don't do actual running that often, when I do, it sucks. I can easily do 45 mins + on the elliptical, but burn out quick on actual turf, my legs also feel the hard impact 'casue they're not used ot it.
Grebe22 said:I used to run ~5 miles x 5 days a week first thing in the morning when I was "cutting" and then I'd go lift in the afternoon 5 days a week. My lifts dropped when I started running in the mornings like that, and a buddy of mine told me to get really cut I should run LESS and I thought he was nuts. For the last three weeks, due to a new job I started, the only cardio I've done is 4-5 miles on Saturday and Sunday, and then I play hockey one night a week. I lift weights on my lunch break M-F and sometimes I'll go do some weight work on Sunday night. I have burn more fat, and gained muscle, while doing this new routine. So while I'm not answering the "What's your favorite type of cardio?" question, I just figured I'd share that for anyone who's thinking you have to do a ton of cardio to burn fat.

Plus u will be sweating like a whore in church......

kustom said:The best form of cardio by far is skipping...It is a fact that skipping takes 3 times the effort of running, gives your a good respiratory rate...Tops for fitness.
Also helps alot with fitness, everyone knows how to run, but skipping gives you balance co-ordination and that something extra.
Remember if your down for time a 10 minute skipping session is the same as a 30 minute run.
Thanks, Kustom.
