Farmers walk help

2 questions...
What should I do to get stronger at lifting the implements?I hadnt done the farmers walk in a while,so I just went straight for maybe 70',and worked up to 275 each. That was tough to lift, but I figured I could get more.I tryed 300's,but they wouldnt move...went back down to 275s again and they wouldnt move :( so I need to do things to get stronger at picking these up..I guess maybe doing them more often will help alot, but it wasnt very motvating not being able to lift a weight that I know I can hold on to
Also,Im trying to figure out what I could do to get faster?I was thinking speed sets with maybe 150's.I had been running around the gym with 100lb db's....It seemed to help some, with lighter weights, but didnt seem to do much for my heavy sets.

Thanks for any feedback..

i've improved mine a lil lately and i just started doin heavy runs and holds more...also clint suggested on lower day i do some farmer dl's from a small platform(4" or so) w/somethin i can do a few reps with..nothin real heavy..for me will be 200-215. i think this will help with picking them up alot. i also feel that my increased dl's and gms have helped considering i raised my overall back strength.

It is just base strength that gets you to pick them up...and you need to be stronger in order to be able to walk with them faster.

Make sure that when you start to pick them up...your heels are uncer your middle fingers when they grip the bar. People tend to be too far back when they try to pick them up...makes it A LOT harder.

Yes...I'd add in some deads with the farmers a time or two a week just to work on the pick up. Nothing extreme...but you can use 200-225 for 3 sets of 5 probably.

You have long legs...remember to take longer strides.

Thanks guys.Ill start doing deads with them.I think mine sit about an inch lower than mastiff style farmers,so thats probably part of the problem, but I do need to get stronger anyways.Lately even though Im staying consistent,my low back doesnt feel as strong...feels like Ive been using a belt for a long time, and just stopped using it,even though I havent been using a belt.Ill figure something out...just gotta fix it and get stronger

Last night Nate & I did farmer walks with his new toys. It was my second time with them...I did 100 lbs. this time (I assume y'all are talking in eaches here).

B, I didn't know to keep the heels under my middle finger but that's how I was doing it anyhow--seemed really easy to lift. On my fourth run, I ended up dropping them about 8-10 feet shy of my mark...left hand grip going, going, gone! So I reset myself and finished it off like a good girl!

This is fun! :D As I told a lookey-loo last night, "It's way more fun than the treadmill!"

As far as foot speed is concerened, I think the way to go is to take practice runs with heavier weights. I've just started doing them, so I don't really know how well it will work, but it seems to work on things like the yoke; moving with 500lbs got a lot easier when I had to move with 600.

But when it comes to farmers... my problem is grip. I would rather have your problem right now :)

There is a lot of technique to the events...more than I ever imagined. Remember to NEVER look at the end mark. Most people drop the farmers within 5' of the end of the line. Keep that head up.

The longer the stride and the faster that you walk/run...the less time you have to hold onto it:)
