false grip when benching?

yeah, looks like it, but lots of guys in my gym use it and the ones that do look huge....they said its more comfortable....who knows...anyone else have anything else to add?

i've tried it and it does feel more comfortable to me, but when i get up to heavy weight i get worried about dropping the shit. it doesn't seem to make that much of a difference though

i may have been mistaken when reading the post but by false grip i figured you meant not wrapping your thumbs around the bar, but keeping them on the same side as your other fingers

i use it (but unfortunately i'm not huge!!) it feels so much more comfortable as i can't even bench the other way anymore. i'm not at all worried about getting hurt as i'm pretty confident about that grip.........i hope i don't eat those words now!!

I am not huge either, but I use it most of the time. It's just more comfortable, and I have not had a problem with losing my grip *knocks on desk three times*

I lift with guys that do it but i personally don't. I have before but never with heavy weight. I'm getting into the powerlifting mode here lately and from what I understand most meets you can't use the false grip. Just something to consider.

Two things to remember. 1) The false grip is affectionately known as "The Suicide Grip." 2) It will not make a single pounds worth of difference in your bench. It's not the magic formula that makes you super strong.

Personally, I've tried it once or twice and found it to be completely uncomfortable.

I benched conventionally for the first few years of lifting, but now I have to use a suicide grip. If I wrap my thumbs it feels like shit and I just can't do it.

No one said that it was, it is a matter of personal preference. That said though, a difference in grip may affect you mentally and thereby increase or decrease your lift? Just a though.

No, it wasn't said that it was the magic formula, but it was implied in the sentence "yeah, looks like it, but lots of guys in my gym use it and the ones that do look huge...." It's like saying that they're only huge because of the false grip, or that somehow the false grip helped them get huge.

I see what you mean. I just took it another way...guys that are huge must know what they are doing, so if they use a false grip, it must be a good idea (not my thoughts, just how I interpreted someone else's.

EXACTLY but if it is too much weight I,ll do a normal grip to be safe.

false grip is not much - if any - safer than gripping with your thumb. Just a personal preference for the lifter. Do what is comfortable.
