failing without spotter

what do you guys do you when you fail on bench without a spotter near to help you? i got pinned today, had to roll the weight off me. it sucked! so have any of you ever experienced this?

I have been pinned doing close grip bench press after doing like 6-8 sets on incline LOL But, the weight i use is not going to hurt me (75 lbs) so i just roll it off and re rack the bar. Kinda embarrasing.

i get a spotter, i push myself harder when i know i can fail without harm to myself. ironically i dnot usually fail with a spotter (i do 5x5 and dont go to fail anyway :) )

no can do, i train alone and at home...this was the first time in 8 years this happened to me though.

Don't fail next time.

Seriously, just don't take 1rm attempts. If you keep your max attempts to triples, then you will know for the most part if you are going to get all the reps.

No sense in being foolish.

i know bro, but i WAS doing triples actually, i thought i had enough power left after the second rep but suddenly i just bombed. i do NOT intend to be so stupid again

I work out at home too, and benching in my rack has saved my ass (actually my face) a number of times. Safety bars rule.

I lift alone, but always yank somebody over to give me spots on inclines, flats, closegrips, and millitary presses. I couldn't even imagine doing these lifts without a spotter. On a side note, however this reminds me off a little slip I had today doing closegrips. I had just finished blasting my biceps so my forearms were already throbbing. I then went to warm up with just 135lbs(thank god) and on my way back up with the weight the bar totally slipped right off of the edge of my hands and came bouncing off my chest. I quickly grabbed the bar on the first bounce and racked it back up. I couldn't imagine doing my heavy sets without someone looking over me.

I've got a bruise across my thigh/hip joint from last weeks chest workout where I was doing 4 sets of 5 reps with 225lb on incline bench. I had done all 4 sets with week before at 5 reps and this week I failed after 4. Talk about an awkward position to get the weight off you hips from. To make matters worse I had sping collars on the bar too.

I workout in a cage and set the pins below gut level. Then if need be I can flatten out and dump the bar on the pins. Saved me more than one and it increases your confidence to tackle higher weights.

had 430 lbs come crashing down towards my face, pins saved me.

I've rollled some weight when I first started and it hurts it was only like 205 too. I know the feeling though when you just die and the weight sits there on your chest.

Yes I also had to roll the weight at 205 all the way down and i even hurt my balls in the proccess trying to get it over that lump. I now use a spotter every time. Bad Experience.

I tend to hit my reps more often when I have a spotter too. You'd think that avoiding having the weight cruch your chest and looking like a fool would be the ultimate motivator but for some reason the comfort of knowing that won't happen gives better results.

Never go without a spotter. I guess safety bars are good if you have them.

When I first started lifting, getting stuck was no big deal. But now my 5x5 has moved me way beyond being able to roll off, and the last time I got stuck my voice hurt the rest of the day from the compression against my chest.

I _never_ rep without a spotter. Just resolve in your mind that you have to have one.

I don't bench enough that the amount of weight would actually hurt me, I can usually recognize when I fail so I move the barbell while its still in the air to my hip bones and just sit up. Rolling sucks sooo much.

i've been using that half power rack at the gym lately. makes it easier than getting a spotter for 5x5. but chest day is the only day i'd need to go get a spotter. on back/shoulders day and on arms day i have a parnter, and leg day i use the power rack for squats. i don't like to have to rely on others if i don't have to.
