Average murder rate per 100,000 residents in counties won by Gore: 13.2

Researchers found one more interesting fact that might help explain these disparate murder rates. Gun ownership is much higher in the counties won by Bush than in those won by Gore. Maybe people who have the power to use deadly force to protect themselves and their families are a deterrent to those who would easily and without fear, molest and murder the foolish and
disarmed.

This is NOT a stretch, so don't even start.

I'm from Canada, but with regards to the never-ending battle b/t the nra and the gov in the states. Criminals will find firearms whether or not there is a ban on handguns or semi's. Law-abiding citizens are not the threat and are the only group being punished by such a law. How about contributing more money into the education system to give would be wayward individuals a chance at a lawabiding life, rather than a life of crime which could ultimately lead to the theft of a gun from a registered homeowner and the uproar that would result from a death(murder) with that weapon.

In counties where carry permits are issued, gun related crimes go down signifigantly. It goes to the mindset of the criminal.

If criminal believe that their victim is un-armed their mindset is that they are putting someone elses life at risk- if there is a good certainty their proposed victim will be armed they must be prepared for risking their own life! Not as rosey a proposition!!!!

And here it's even lower - where gun controls are VERY thight - even the police don't carry guns (thank GOD). In fact you only hear about guns being used by foriegn gangs (mainly the Yardies)

That just proves that bush voters can't aim as well as gore voters...however given that gore voters couldn't hit a punch hole with a stick makes this analysis somewhat suspect .

i'm not talking about rehabilitation, thats after the fact, what i'm advocating is education, which is before the fact. If you get to people, young enough, you will show them the alternatives to a life of crime. People turn to crime when they have no job, no $$$$$$, peer pressue, etc. However, their will always be that certain % of evil individuals who can never be educated nor rehabilitated. To these people, you throw away the key or send them to texas. Educating the public, especially at a young age is the key.

This is why I advise people to join Big Brother/Big Sister programs and/or a local community program to spend time with those less fortunate.

Until I moved here a year ago I made the effort to get involved with community outreach programs, but the town I'm in Now doesn't have a good program available. The city hasn't put much time into it. The only Big Brother/Sister program has severe restrictions that make it almost impossible to get involved with the kids lifes

Yes England has always enjoyed a disarmed citizenery. It make you much easier to keep in line- historically speaking. My family emmigrated from England on my fathers side.
