if you won a hundred million dollars, what would you do? big houses, holidays, cars? sure, but why? to get women, to social prestige, "feel like youre doing something? sure, but why? to make yourself feel better about things? sure, but why? to feel good. thats what its all about to me. work is but a means to to an end, the end being, ulimately, to feel good, however it is that you like to feel good. being married or having a pet to spoil is just another cog in the machine that is making yourself feel good...so think about taking a step back from the preconceptions that have been instilled in you by family/society about what you should or shouldnt be doing, and keep cutting through all that superfluous bullshit until you figure out how to make yourself feel good - and then do it.

sorry to hear that, mm, it doesnt sound like youre in the best frame of mind. someone close to me is in a similar way, and i have often said to them that part of their "looking after" the family includes the responsibility to look after themselves - because they are integral to the family, and their own health -mental or otherwise - impacts upon everybody. so, if i were you, i would go and have fun, secure in the knowledge that any money spent (or unearned) in doing so will be put back into the family 100x over by a healthier, happier you.

i hope i get that money too though i dont need nearly so much and dont care about money terribly much...though i am fortunate in that the things i like are things you dont need much money to get

im not pitying you at all (though talking to people with your attitude is rather frustrating) but given that you realise that you know little apart from work, you know enough to realise that there is something else...why not go take a look? go treat yourself to something, before something happens to you and you never get the chance...
