Eyeballing Portion Sizes - Question

To eyeball portion sizes when a scale is not around .....

Am I correct on the "size estimates"?

protein - about the size of your palm only (no fingers or thumb) or a deck of cards
fat - size of your thumb or a domino
carb - golf ball? tennis ball? (or, as my diet has been lately, a basketball? lol j/k)

Do these sound about right?
 
I have weighed out all of the following or measured and these are my guidelines for the portions I want:

4 oz chicken breast = about 35 g protein - about the size of my fist (prob same as palm size)
3 oz sweet potato = about 25-30 g carb = seems s bit bigger than a golf ball - I just imagine what the slice of it looks like & I tend to get pretty close
fats - 1 tbsp or x number almonds -- these are really the only measures of fats I use so I just use the actual measuring spoon - flax oil, ANPB or olive oil
 
As Sassy said - the carbs are half way between a golf and tennis ball...but it also depneds on the type of carb(water content) but its a great estimate.


Saturated fat - a domino is pretty close
Meat - deck of cards - yes
 
Thanks. I thought I was in the ballpark.

I have a scale at home, but when going out, it is nice to have some pictures in my head right now. I know once I get back into the "eating clean" and potion size thing, it will come right back to me .... but for now I am so out of it, it is hard to just look at food and know it;s size (like I used to be able to do!).
