Extremely swolen knuckles????

DrBones

New member
OK..... I punched my buddy tonight jokin around and my knuckles have completely swolen over... I'm talkin my last two knuckles look like a swolen tumour, its like i only have 3 knuckles total.... I think I did some cartelage damage a few weeks ago...and i may have made it extremely worse tonight..... but it hurts to close my hand completely now... should i go to the hospital/doctor?

THanks
This is a serious post... my hand is fuckin killing...

it's possible you have a boxer's fracture. you need to see a doc and get an x-ray. he'll hook you up w/ a splint for a few weeks and some anti-inflammatory meds (if i'm right). either way keep some ice on it as well as keeping it elevated helps to you can get to see a doc. good luck - i hope it aint broke bro.

Thanks for the advice guys... I'm gunna go see a doc today or tomorrow... my hand is still swolen but not as bad as last night..
Thanks

You should stop training for 6 months....

is what the doctor will tell you. :)

Thats when I whip out my *&^% and tell him to blow me!

haha... Im gunna give the knuckle a day or two to unswell.... see how it goes... then make a decision about goin to the doc

My buddy punched a brick wall out of anger once. His knuckle swelled up instantly. It was gross. He just left it, and it went away after a while.

If you can't even close your hand, you're not going to be able to train normally anyhow, I'd suggest that you go get it checked out. If you broke your hand/finger wouldn't you want to know? Unless you have x-ray eyes, there's no sure way to tell.

I can close my hand now.. just a little pressure between my knuckles... I can definitely train like this.. I dont want to go to a doc and him give me a split and not be able to train for a few weeks.... Im pretty sure there is nothing I can do about it anyways.... If there is still discomfort in a couple days.. as I mentioned earlier Ill go visit a qwuack.... (however you spell that)

Ya, I always wrap my hands wehn I hit the heavy bag now..

i know what you're going through, been there, done that.. Doesn't feel too good, but when you wrap hit the bag, it makes your knuckles so muich fcking better and stronger because it develops calises..

yea ive done that before, didnt break any bones but 3 knuckles were swollen for a little more than a week. i punched a metal door, hehe

I thought it was quack..:D .

DrBones, are you going to take it easy with the training? Doesn't make sense to aggravate an injury, preventing you from training alltogether.

What kind of range of motion do you have? Type of pain? Flexibility? I know there are some modifications out there that bignate has come up with for me (as well as several others on the boards). I've implemented several "wrist friendly" modifications in my workouts. (I work on a computer A-L-L day long!:user: ) They allow me to contine my training while minimizing further injury.

This injury will in absolutely no way affect my training....
There is slight tension on my hand when my knuckles are fully closed and there is swelling from the mid pinky finger across half of my hand.. I never even noticed the hand until about 30 minutes ago.. lol

Anyways.. i really dont think this will be much of a problem unless i get in a fight... which just doesnt happen..

I don't think it will be any problem at all. Usually when you jam the joints distal interphalangeal joints then you may have what is called mallet finger but I don't think this is the case. You jammed proximal interphalangeal joints as well as your metacarpophalangeal joint and all that has happened is your ligaments and tendons have been stressed. Thus swelling has happened and will subside.
