Extreme training routines.

Hey bros (fighters only) my trainer is going to Michigan to train a lighter weight guy for and up coming title shot and Im not making the trip, I have 2 weeks on my own and wanted to challenge myself with different or old school styles of training to shake things up. We never had a real fighters training secrets section and it's about damn time. Any suggestions for speed or power, exercises to do? Maybe some old sand bag type of shit? Last week I sparred after spinning myself in a circle for a minute to fight with my equilliberium (or however it's spelled) f-d up and that was very difficult to try and focus but it was great because it was almost as if I had been rocked. Anyways, No dickheaded comments, I really want to hear good shit anyone and everyone who trains lend me your ideas and routines Id love to hear what you got to say! I need to try something different and shake things up for a while, you never can know enough! BoxerJake, MikeMartial, KOArtist, Djimbe, 1392477, assface, and all other dudes that train that I may have forgot lets hear it.

Just be creative. Do super-squats or updowns for 3 minutes straight then spar for 3 minutes then hit pad for 3 minutes then spar for 3 minutes then do crunches for 3 minutes then spar 3 minutes.

I really believe in sparring at the height of exhaustions so A) you condition yourself for a fight and b) have to resort to using technique the right way.

I'm not sure if you've seen this guy's site before, but he has some killer ideas for home gym/alternative training type stuff, and great articles:

Ross Enamait Training Articles and Video

Check the lowtech-higheffect video for the sandbag drill, and get a load of the one-arm ab roller workout in "home Gym" That's insane.

Also check out Crossfit.com for a change of pace. While not specific to MMA or any type of fight training, their WOD is great to mix it up. I've found that some of them totally kick my ass. If you don't do the WOD, at least check the exercise section---there's some interetsing variations of types and some I've never seen.

This probably can't be over-emphasised, EVER. At peak exhaustion we always revert back to the way we trained. Training for precise technique at peak physical and mental exhaustion is just plain smart training, period.

Another different training regime, along the lines of conditioning again:

The Bear

Keep a large empty bucket close by. Trust me on this :)

Being summer and all brings me to mention some things to do in a pool.

While standing in a pool (at least 4 feet deep) practive punching and kicking. Stay focused on form and proper movement / recovery. Your goal is to improve your speed while not sacrificing form. The resistance from the water will slow you down but after a couple of weeks you will see an improvement in the speed of your punches.

In a gym it's easy to improvise a routine, but being away from the equipment is good sometimes.

GYM - alternate different activities for 5 minutes each - do this for one hour and you will feel it.

5 min - Jump Rope
5 min - stomach crunches
5 min - heavy bag - punches only
5 min - step ups while holding dumbells
5 min - Jump rope
5 min - heavy bag - kicks only
5 min - push ups or mountainclimbers
5 min - Jump Rope
5 min - heavy bag - kicks and punches (speed)
5 min - step ups while holding dumbells
5 min - Jump Rope
5 min - heavy bag - kicks and punches (power)
