manny78 said:Just heard Bud Selig saying that club owners have just voted for dissolving the Expos and the TWins...........sad but we were expecting that.....![]()
The Whole F/N Show said:Montreal doens't deserve a team so good riddance to the Expos. I heard they weren't even on TV there. Now that's just pathetic. Twins I would kinda miss, but that's life. I was kinda always a Kirby Puckett fan.
BigPhysicsBastard said:I don't think Montreal will miss the expos........it's a shame, their just a hockey town I guess. Now the Twins, I have no comprehension as to why they would be considered for dissolving. Actually, I'm wondering why they want to dissolve any teams in the first place???
You can't forget Hubie Brooks!manny78 said:
This year yes we had them on TV but since 1994 the Expos were the most ridiculous team in MLB. After 1994 season (they were champion) Walker, Grissom, Ken Hill and John Wetteland left the team. The former owner traded them for no-names rookies and we all know what happened. After the new owner Loria came here with such a bad attitude that it fucked everything up. Last season he asked an astronomic amount for TV rights and thats why we had no baseball on TV. SO in conclusion, since the Bronfman sold the team in 1990 it has been a shame. I still remember the great years in the early 80's with Tim Raines, Andre Dawnson, Tim Wallach, Gary Carter, Andres Calaragga....

Montreal has produced alot of great talent. Randy johnson,Pedro Martinez and Larry Walker are couple of other big names to leave Montreal. Could you imagine if they could have afforded to keep a team together. The Expos would have a couple of World Series.manny78 said:
damn bro you'Re right, also Denis "El Presidente" Martinez and his perfect game in 1990, Steve Rodgers......

No personal insult, Manny, but that is the typical Canadian attitude; just like socialized medicine. Have someone else pay for your shit. Where do you want the team to get money from, the 6,500 fans that came to each home game? One of the radio stations there told Loria that they would carry the games but that the Expos would have to sell the ad time themselves.manny78 said:

Bottom line, you didn't support the Expos, the Canadian government won't give pro sports teams a tax break so they can competetively compete with the American salary structure. We have the Jets (Coyotes), Denver has the Nordiques (Avalanche), Vancouver Grizzlies just moved to Memphis, Get ready to say goodbye to the Raptors, the Maple Leafs and the famous Canadiens. The Blue Jays are probably just a couple of years down the 'pike.
Sorry to say it, but Fuck Pro sports in Canada. You dug your grave now lie down in it.![]()

1. Taxes
In the US businesses that bring economic benefits
to their region get tax credits/write-offs/breaks, etc...
Tax breaks are needed for pro sports in Canada because
they need to compete with the salary structure of US
teams which are their direct competetors. If one looks
at the payroll of the average pro sports franchise along
with the revenues generated from games, ticket, food,
etc... sales the government is just plain greedy. They
can have a smaller percentage and keep that revenue
or they can tax the hell out of them and then they leave
and they can collect 65% of NOTHING. Just plain stupid
government.
2. TV/Radio. Yep, like I said, Loria did that on purpose.
3. Hockey. I know the wealth of these teams. When is
the last time they won a championship? Their payrolls
are disproportionately higher due to thehigher taxes and
although they are profitable, they can and will make more
and will compete at a higher level south of the border.
Just look what happened with Eric Lindros; he refused to
play for Toronto, much was due to the taxes on his salary.
Oh yeah, I forgot the Flames and the Canucks; we're just
looking for cities to put them in right now![]()
thebabydoc said:That's exactly right, Rude, I almost forgot. This is doefinitely another ploy by the owners to control the collective bargaining process. But please don't paint Fehr as any kind of prince either; he's as hypocritical a fuckity fuck as any of the owners save for that douchebag Selig.
