Expired supplements

Does anyone here know of test run or run test themselves on the use of expired supplements??? Particularly protein powders. Alot of the nutrition stores in this area offer very low prices on supplements that are close to expiring, and extremely low prices on supplements that have expired. I am wondering on the potency and possible health issues. If anyone has any info on this please respond. thanks all

My understanding is that using or consuming expired protein is safe.
In regard of using expired creatine is a completely different story. I understand that consuming expired creatine does not represent a threat to you health, however it is unclear whether creatine keeps all of its properties active after the expiration date. In some article from MD magazine I red that consuming expired creatine is a waste a money since the properties of the active ingredients are long gone.

By the way, is there in way i can contact the store you're talking about in your post? If so, please pass it on dude!!!.

Usually the expiration date on these products mean nothing more than this is the latest date the STORE can retail them by. This not mean the product has actually gone bad. If there is no moisture in the product, notably creatine, if it is still sealed tightly, then you will probably be alright.

Anyone know anything on the potency of expired protein or the shelf life of said products?? Do protein powders lose their potency??

Don't know that there is any way to tell other than bad taste or moisture. I would say if it is not over a year old, and no moisture or other contamination in the product, it is probably safe. I have bought expired products in the past and used them with no consequences. Kind of hard to tell about "potency" of protein even when it is new. ;)

all products will eventually begin to lose effaciacy over a period of time... it doesn't neccesarliy mean they will not work, but won't provide the claimed results...

i work in pharma, and this is why OTC meds have expiration dates... a pill thy will last for 8 hours, may only last for 4-6 after it expiration date, and decrease at that time frame increases...

that being said, i wouldn't worry too much about an "expired" protein powder...
