Expiration dates are actually underestimated, right?

A friend of mine has a few bottles of Suspension that are printed with an expiration date of 2001/11. Realistically speaking, that does not the product is no longer active on November 1, 2001 12:00 AM. I'm almost positive manufacturers intentionally underestimate the actual expiration of a product, mostly for legal reasons, among other things. Do you guys agree? Also, how long after the printed expiration date does would the product become inactive?

It's probably still good. Things just don't become inactivated, they lose their potency over time. Seeing as it "expired" in Nov it should still be good.

i asked a pharmacist about that and here is the answer i got.

"the expiration date shows the ammount of time, under normal conditions, that it will take for a given drug to loose 5% of it's potency"

So there you have it. It does not spoil like milk. It's just slightly weaker. Then supposedly every year you can subtract another 2.5% of it's potency.

It's still good after expiration date, just maybe not as 'potent'. Gear doesn't go bad like milk or your ex-gf after the expiration date. :)
