I have some really nice RED Star Primo I bought last year, however it's going to expire in the next 6 months. I don't believe I can start a cycle for at least another year as I need to get back into shape.

How long after expiration will my gear last and also should I take any safety precautions?

It will last for a good year after the expiration date, but it will slowly degrade, so you NEED to use it before that expiration date!
