Experimenting on sets per bodypart

I was just curious if any of you guys experimented in higher sets per bodypart? I usually stick with standard 9-12 sets. I know that doing 15-20 sets is considered overtraining. I experimented with my triceps with higher sets and responded well. It was probably a shock that cased the gains but it worked. I was wondering if anyone else have experimented? Please do not respond with "No, it is overtraining."

Im currently training both on squats and deads for as many reps as possible in 20 mins... so a little different, but the volume definitely makes a difference. I'm doing it this way for a number of reasons (inc an old injury prevents heavy weights), mostly so I can be physically useful during voluntry work. Only my second workout on deads tonight (got 197 reps last time), Im reducing rest periods by 5 seconds each workout, and adding 1 rep to each set. I'll let you know how it goes. Ive done 3 workouts on squats, and gone up 22 reps, and taken 10 secs off rest periods. My main aim this year is to do continuous reps for 20mins and see how many I can get, then increase the length of time.

Ah, thnx for the reply. That doesn't sound like much fun at all. In highschool our coah had us max out for reps with 135 on squats. It felt like forever, and my arms were numb from holding the bar. Needless to say Ill never do that again.

It sounds like it will be one hell of a cardio workout. If 20 mins of deads doesnt get you in better shape then nothing will. I think of you can finish that you will be quite capable of being useful for your voluntary work.

Thank you for your reply. I love to hear examples of outside the box thinking. I have maid good gains doing things differantly. Standard protocol bores me. I get bored easily so I am continuosly looking for new ideas. I might try the 20 minutes of squats or deads some day, but don't hold me too it.
