Exercises 4 Explosive Power

Hello All,

I did some Power Cleans today and wow do I feel good. Have been noticing that even though I can lift heavy and am strong, I find that I dodn't have enough fitness in terms of bursts of power. Apart from The Snatch, what other favourite exercises have you guys used to take your fitness in terms of explosive power through the roof? Karma to anyone who helps me out, particularly by explaining the exercises or directing me to good webpages that can!

Its not just exercises, its how you lift them. Lift fast, be fast
fast down, fast up

but some exercises are better for certain things

depends on your goals

I do have a bias but generally I think Olympic style lifting works well for developing explosive power. As Coolcolj mentioned though, how you execute them really makes all the difference. Aside from that, top on my list would be: power cleans and snatches, power jerks, push presses, squats (concentrating on acceleration during concentric phase), pulls and high pulls, Glute Ham extensions, good mornings and when you're really comfortable with them good morning with jump. Don't use alot of weight with the GM w/jump but great exercise for improving vertical jump. Hope this helps.
