Good god. If there was ever a chick i'd love to just full-hand bitch slap just to shut her up -- she would be it.

Ashlee's Deep Denial

Simpson sidesteps booing blame; Plus, Ashley parties, Madonna chants, and more

Jan. 12, 2005

Ashlee Simpson is fast becoming an expert at the blame game. After her lip-synching, square-dancing meltdown on "Saturday Night Live," she was quick to fault both the band and her pesky acid reflux.

Now, days after she received a resounding chorus of boos following an eardrum-shattering half-time performance at the Orange Bowl, she's once again running plays from the excuses handbook (a tome we're guessing was penned by dad Joe Simpson), and she's pointing the fickle finger of responsibility at everyone but herself.

"If they didn't like the performance, and that's what it was about, then sorry to them," a deep-in-denial Ashlee pouts to MTV. "Maybe they were booing at me, maybe they were booing at the half-time show 'cause the whole thing sucked. I was facing [the Oklahoma Sooners], and I was rooting for USC, and they played a clip of it, so maybe it was that those people didn't like me. You never know. But I can't make everybody happy."

As for her much-mocked, off-key rendition of "La La" (its screechy denouement of "you make me wanna scream" is forever seared in our brain), Simpson blames that old-standby -- the sound equipment.

"There were no ear monitors when we went onstage," she complains. "No floor monitors. And trying to sing in a stadium where you can't hear yourself is kinda hard. My sister [Jessica] was like, 'I don't know how you just did that! I performed in stadiums, and if I didn't have my ears, I would have freaked.'"

But Ashlee says her recent trials and tribulations have helped her grow as a person, and she channels both Stuart Smalley ("I'm good enough, I'm smart enough, and doggone it, people like me") and a popular bumper sticker ("Mean people suck") in dismissing her troubles.

"I go from having a No. 1 album ["Autobiography"] and things going great and all of a sudden something like 'SNL' happens and boom! You're faced with how mean people can be and criticizing you and stuff," she tells MTV. "But I've learned a lot about myself through all of this. It's like, I'm not perfect and I'm not going to be perfect."

For now, Simpson remains unconcerned about her seemingly shaky future. "I'm still 20, and a new artist, and I will only grow," she says optimistically. "And I look forward to continuing to not listen to what one person says and making good music." Good luck with that, sweetie

its her dad. that money hungry douche bag. he'd whore his daughters out if given the chance.

If only the people who come together to hate Ashlee could come together to hate news magazines shows as well.

she needs to do what hooolio englasias did when he had his mike recording when mmiming released on stern (?), and sing live on the show repeatedly to prove her voice

So true...so, so true.

The media is being rough on this kid. While I'm no fan I've heard some live perfromances where she sounded fine. I'm sure she was not the first to lip sync on Saturday Night Live.

I'd like to put something in her mouth to shut her up.

I hate pop music. She had a no. 1 album, and has never been on tour.

If she does grow from all the trials and tribulations she will either be a successful singer or make it big in politics.

Can anyone deny that America sucks when you have douchebags like Ashlee Simpson, Paris Hilton et al as celebrities? You people make me sick.

HEY!!! Don't forget about Carrot Top and Christopher Penn.

This is what happens when a no talllent perfomer gets a HUGE push. This is a great example of how the industry is actually working. If it were not for name, she would be cleaning the grese tray at Macdonalds.

yah its really sad that you really need zero talent.

she is also ulgy,annoying.

she should retire from music and go do something else like feed the poor in africa.

Julio is the daddy, enrique is the talentless son in question.

I heard that show. Stern was saying it wasnt him on the record and he went on to sing live. the catch tho was that he didnt sing the part of the song (i dont remember which one it was) in the upper octives. thats where he would have likely messed up outside of the studio without 7 or 8 retakes and tweaking. Stern was nice enuf not to point this out (or he just didnt notice).

Don't forget Tom Cochrane, Shania Twain, Triumph (the band, not the insult comic dog puppet...), Chilliwack, The Tragically Hip, Barenaked Ladies, Crash Test Dummies, Finger Eleven, Three Days Grace...

Only thing good coming out of Canada these days is "Trailer Park Boys".

lets start ashleesimpsonsucks.com website

we'd get lots of traffic

I just wish she'd go away. Stop trying to convince us you are a musician or have any shred of talent. You don't. Deal with it.

Cause she's a chick, she not going down as fast as Milli Vanelli did but her career is ending soon. She got no talent and on top of that, she can't do serious PR to fix her poor image.

You'd have a point except most of those people are famous in the US. We couldn't give a shit. ;)
