Excellent UFC Tonight

All of the aired fights were entertaining. I can't figure out how to get the prelim matches from the UFC's website though. I thought Thiago Alves was the most impressive. I think one judge actually gave Koscheck a round!

Yes. I think GSP can be competitive with anyone near his weight class. I think GSP would get KO'd by Silva though. GSP is not as large as Silva and probably not significantly stronger and strength plays an important role in GSP's style. GSP is extremely athletic. If you nullify his strength, he loses one of his most significant attributes.

Keep in mind I thought Fabricio Werdum would submit Dos Santos on the ground within the first 3 minutes of their fight. Werdum ended up getting KO'd before the 3 minute mark. I'm no infallible oracle.

Off topic:

Do you think GSP could compete favorably with Anderson at 185 lbs?

BTW. I don't think I have seen you post in the Martial Arts board here. Feel free to start a topic or reply to any that interest you. There aren't too many regular posters there, but most who post are very cool and knowledgeable. The Martial Arts board is actually much more civil than this chat board. Surprising since most posters there have a self indulgent love of watching and/or training in violence.

Great fight. It's a shame what happened to Cote.

as in beatable

As in being a dick, Cote isn't on the same level and Silva made it a point by keeping his hands low and disrespecting him...offering a "hand up" is an insult. Silva could have ended that fight in the first round.

I just don't know who can beat this guy.

Maybe a striker like Rampage would have a "puncher's chance" if he can keep it standing.

Thanks for posting the link but I felt like I was watching an ECW event. Somebody will beat him eventually...but I can't name a current fighter off the top of my head. :)

I almost laugh when I say maybe Keith Jardine but he is the Chaos factor in MMA. If Silva fights "up" again...That might be a good match.

I'd like to see Silva & Rampage fight and get into a clinch and Rampage catch one of Silva's knees, then lift him and drop him on his bald head :)

Silva needs to hit 205 if he wants to be the best fighter in the world and it's a "stacked" division.

Understood, when I asked who could beat Anderson I was talking about at 205.

Only GSP would have a tiny chance at 185.

Depends on which GSP shows up...based on his last fight, Silva is beatable because he might believe his own hype...being complacent and suffering from "champion syndrome."

I went to a college wrestling camp after my freshman year in high school. We had some awesome coaches and one of the coaches gave us a warning. His older brother was undefeated for three years and going for his fourth year of being undefeated. One kid shaved his head and made his life's mission the defeat of his brother...he beat him and was a .500 wrestler, he was focused and trained to beat him.

I think a guy like Thiago Alves makes a perfect opponent for him. Alves fights with angles and constantly pressures and cuts off the ring well.

I see your point. I'd just be concerned about Alves' size.

Isn't he normally 170/185?

Is there someone that fights with his style at 205?
