Ever heard of topamax? Great little fat burner!

Rememer, doctors get paid a fortune from these Pharm companies to perscribe their drugs. Whenever you go to the doc and see the cialis pens and levitra pads of paper and all of that shit, it is from the pharm reps selling the shit. Docs get kickbacks and other goodies for prescribing these meds, especially when the meds are new. You have to ask questions of these docs, like how long the stuff has been out, if there are any other patients on it and what are their results, then you have to do your own research. The medical industry is all about making money and selling product. It is your body, do the research and don't blindly trust docs (not saying that you do)

I was prescribed a new anit depressant a couple of years ago called cymbalta, the shit made my anxiety worse and made me gain weight. I didn't do my research and just blindly trusted the doc. Bad fucking move.

Well, true as that may be, but do you think that applies in the same manner to military medicine? I thought it was all contract crap.

That's a good question. I have no idea how that works. Good Point.

I've worked for years in many levels of managed care and public service organizations. Recently my responsibility was to authorize different levels of treatment services for Medicaid/Medicare. Here's the connection: Military = Medicaid = Federal Govt. It's all the same entity and machine; they sub-contract to whoever is willing to provide the "best" service for the least cost - so you don't necessarily get the most credible/experienced doc.

This is called Public Administration - your tax dollars at work are usually wasting or duplicating efforts with poor results. The docs they contract with aren't screened for "conflicts of interest" with Big Pharma - the docs just want to keep their contract with the govt and the govt wants to be able to say they're providing a service (with little or no oversight) and like 2Guns mentioned, believe me they get perks. It's not that the govt "doesn't care" - they just can't let the average person know...otherwise they're exposing how govt works (or doesn't) and this might pinch/sting an elected official - who is their boss. And by the way, it's got nothing to do with Dem vs. Repub - they both do it poorly and hope to never be found out by a critical mass of the citizenry that would then revolutionize our Public Adminstrations. Just my .02...

Do not be discouraged. There are without a doubt many, many, many good people in your military adminstration -but they have a way of doing things that "won't rock the boat" which would cost them their job - which is everything to an American. We're either drones or advocates depending on how much suffering we're willing to endure. You think it makes you crazy? Wait till you move up and become part of the machine.....
