That's definitely a low figure i was thinking about 95-97%

Hey taps, don't tell me to take charge and shit, i have been to 4 psychologists, 1 psychiatrist...i have been on prozac, st johns wart, valium, lithium, zoloft, paxil, and ritalin and nothing has worked, i've given the initiative, i've tried to get better. You must realize that sometimes the answer to lifes problems are not so simple as "well go to the doctor and get it fixed" doctors do not have the answers all the time. Counseling is a joke, 4 people 3 male docs and 1 female and they all act the same way....its almost pity they use when showing sympathy for the situation, they say things like "I understand" too much when in fact they do not understand, they have not lived my life, they have just read some textbook that has filled them with this magical knowledge of the human mind and behavioral patterns. I have told them point blank that THEY DO NOT UNDERSTAND and they cannot tell me its not soo bad because that is all they do, there answer to things never works....oh have anger management problem? take a time out and evaluate the situation, when you are angry theres no fucking way you are gunna take and evaluate a situation, anger is a primal emotion in a sophicticated and evolved world. I am sorry for ranting but please make less generalized statements about how to fix life's problems.

I'll be on AIM if you'd like to discuss this further.

Ever try praying?

Depression/Anxiety is different for everyone. Some people need meds and some don't. Depression is a PHYSICAL illness with PSYCHOLOGICAL symptoms. You can take a picture of a depressed person's brain ( darn, I forget the name of it- the one that shows all the colors :) ) and you will see major differences in that of a person who is not depressed.- That is physical.

There are a lot of things you can do:

Therapy- I like behavior modification
Diet- Important
Exercise
Meds- If you feel you need it.

Every person will go through depression sometime in life. MOST PASS through it. SOME cannot. That is the difference.

Some advice

1) stay off roids. Endogenous hormones indirectly effect neurotransmitter levels via the bodys neuroendocrine system. So when you augment your bodies internal hormonal balance with exogenous hormones, or synthetic hormones, your neurotransmitter levels will flucuate = increased risk of depression.

2) Start Cognitive therapy. You can either see a psychologist who specializes in cognitive therapy for depression, or you can buy some self help books and work through them at your own pace. Heres a good one:

Feeling Good: The New Mood Therapy
Dr David Burns

Yes, depression is an illness which has physical symptoms. However, in the majority of cases, its ENVIROMENTALLY CAUSED. Some >80% cases of depression are caused by a persons enviroment.

What does that mean?

Cognitive, or thinking strategies uve "picked" up from other people, are probably responsible for the majority of ur depressive symptoms. Cognitive therapy changes ur thinking habits, so u begin to percieve events and urself more rationally and positivily.

If youve tried numerous antidepressents, thats a good indication your depression is caused primarily by enviromental stressors. I would seriously recommend cognitive therapy. Its *clinically proven* to be the single most effective treatment for depression. It easy and provides long term results. It takes as little as 10-15 minutes a day.

If you want a personal testimonial. Heres mine. I had social anxiety. Its an serious anxiety disorder. The constant, intense fear associated with engaging in *any* social interaction, causes the majority of SA sufferers to become depressed.

After completing over 1 year of cognitive therapy for my social anxiety and related depression, Im am soooo much happier.

Meds for depression, in most cases, are usefull only as a stepping stone to help the individual deal with stressfull life events, and faciltate the success of cognitive theraputic techniques.

Get started. It willl help.

As you get older you encounter certain phases or experiences which may bring you down. Death, relationships, work, even training can get to you!

I believe life is about good and bad times and you have to push yourself through the bad times knowing something good will come out of it. It is often hard but usually well worth the effort. Stay healthy and look for the light at the end of the tunnel...

Natty...

I am not going to sit here and say that everything will just be 'OK,' because...well.....sometimes it's just not. I can't say that I have been through what you are going through to that extent, but I do know that I was depressed for quite a while (about 2 and a half years, but never admitted it). I never went to the doctor...I did a lot of stupid things...and made a lot of mistakes...but I have realized now that I must get my life back in order.

I am sure that you are struggling with this...and I don't know what I can say to make you feel better, but just know that if you need anyone to talk to...you know how to get ahold of me! Keep your head up and know that you have people here who will support you! :)
