Making a long story much shorter...

Things weren't set up as well as we thought and after the passing of a (very) wealthy relative we're looking at paying around 55% on a loooooooooooooooooooooot of ''estate''

The person who has had her power of attorney for the last year slacked and didnt get things done.

Is there anything that can be done now to shelter some of it?

Tell me what other details to post or someone on here to contact privately please. I have until next Tuesday to come up with something.

Oh yeah... Fuck the fucking trust that handled all this for hte last 40 years. Fuck them straight to hell.

Find an accountant/lawyer/genius asap. Sometimes they're worth their weight in gold. seems like a lot is riding on this.

and I know you're aware of it already, bur WTF were the people taking care of this thinking?!? You need to be on top of this shit. Lot's of money going down the drain for not planning. Good luck.

well the bad thing is there isnt much you can do now. i did financial planning for seniors and i went to school for it as well. the government looks back 3 years to see if any property was sold, gifted to someone else, etc. they do that cause most people when they know they are going to die soon they try to give away all their stuff to avoid estate tax. yes the government will get their 50% because proper planning was not done. my landlord buys houses through probate court which you will find out soon what hell that is. because most people cant afford to pay the taxs on the property so they have to sell it to someone who can and they get raped on the sale too. unfortunately after the person passes the government puts a hold on all assets until probate court which takes anywhere form 9 to 15 months to complete. before this persons passing they could have his their money in annuities. this acts just like life insurance where when the person dies the money and all interest goes to the benificiary tax free. but as far as estate tax be prepared to take it in the rear. uncle sam is first, then the creditors that the person had gets their cut so start settling with them now for pennies on the dollar. or they will ass rape you yet again. probate court is where your dreams of inheritance goes out the window without proper planning.
