Equation for bodyfat?

So I got 1 of the trainers at my gym to check my bodyfat with the calipers yesterday, and after he pinched all my body parts he then tells me that his computer isn't working so he can't calculate the percentage.

Does anyone know where I can find the equation?

He measured the fat on 10 body parts
(cheek, chin, pec, scapula, knee, oblique, quads, abs, tri, bic.)

I thought you checked it on three... back of the tricep, right above the hip bone, and front of the middle of your thigh? I guess there are different ways to do it. I have the calculation equation at home. Im sure someone else will have it posted before I get to it... If not I'll post it. I think it's weight in kg, divided by your height in Meters squared = BMI ie. I'm 137.8 weight = 2.62.5612 kg, divided by my height in M squared 5'7" 2.9177764 = 21.441396 (BMI)
I'm not sure how accurate that is...

There are many different ways. The more body parts the more accurate.

Thanks for the response. :)

Alright this is what my book says....
1. Enter your weight in pounds ____ ; Multiply by .454 to get weight in kg
2. Enter your height in inches ____; Multiply by .0254 to get your height in Meters
3. Multiply your height in M by itself to get M squared
4. Divide your weight in kg by your height in M squared to get your BMI

Ie. Woman, 145 pounds, 5'6"
1. 145 X .454 = 66
2. 66 X .0254 = 1.68
3. 2.82
4. 23.4

Miss24K - can you ask them to check your BF like that? The trainer I see only tests in 3 places. I would like to be pinched all over! ;)

sounds kinky :qt:

LOL

....the three site is very reliable......the more areas - the more room for ewrror on each measurement....

Really the trainer told me, that the more places they pinch, the more accurate, I don't doubt you, cause he's an idiot along with all the other trainers at the gym, it would be great if they could have at least 1 capable person there. Damn!

ok - honestly.....if you can be consistent - the more sites the better......but you run into a situation where more sites = more chances for error......

LOL

yeah - being a "trainer" or "certified" for that matter means ziltch these days

hmmm in my case I think it's the more sites taken the more error, because I found out what my bodyfat is with the measurements he took and it isn't pretty nor do I think it's accurate.

I have a friend that is a trainer and has checked many people's bodyfat and she laughed at the sites he took....

I'm slightly annoyed today.

requst a three site test:

back of arm
abs
thigh....midpoint....thigh bent at knee...no weight on it......

all talken form dominant side of body

You look like you have low BF...... they must have made a mistake. What did they say you where? (you don't have to answer if you don't want to)

He said 24% :worried: Which can't be right!!! The last time I had it measured it was at 17% (different person measured) and that was last month.

I thought 18ish by the pics...Im sure thats a good number

Yeah don't feel bad. That's why I bought electronic calipers... I was told a week ago by my supposed trainer that I was 24% body fat... I about choked. My calipers said 18% yesterday... So you know I just must have lost 6% body fat in a week.... Yeah right!

Does anybody use a scale with a bodyfat measuring feature? I got one for $40 and use it daily. According to the manual, as long as your bodyfat is above 5%, the reading will be accurate. But for some reason, I just don't believe the numbers I get from it. Sometimes when I'm working out regularly, eating right and getting stronger, the readings don't support a lean tissue gain.

I don't use the body fat feature on my scale. It's new also around $60... registers me at 25% body fat. I did it for two weeks straight every morning same time right when I got out of bed. It's useless... only good for weighing. Electronic calipers are the way to go....
