Maybe this is a generalazation but dont most enviro wackos who wan to protect these animals believe in evolution?
If so are they not interfering with Mother nature's natural course?

If you can call an oil spil an act of mother nature, then I can call planes flying into buildings and IEDs as acts of mother nature. We need more of them.
Why don't you step in traffic? It's just mother nature making you aware of her presence.
Since humans are an act of nature just like all other animals...our acts are acts of nature by definition.

because a lot of times they serve a critical ecological function, or produce a useful chemical, or possess a desirable attribute that makes them worth further scientific study. Or they are just bad-ass or cute and bring people happiness by their very existence.

Then why do people get pissy at 9/11? It was an act of nature.

The things that are "critical" to life on Earth tend to be non-endangered species. The planet has survived a number of mass extinctions where 98%+ of the species perished. Methinks humans are arrogant and self important when it comes to their place in the universe and specifically on this planet. I laughed when Nancy Pelosi claimed she was here to "save the planet." The planet will be here long after humans are extinct. She should focus on saving humans from the planet because it constantly pwns humanity...just ask her most recent victim, Florida.
